Glory Road Reviews
All time sports movie!
This is a story of the past worth knowing! Such a great movie, very inspirational. Not a basketball fan, but definitely rooting for this team. Beautiful side of humanity. Well done Disney.
Entretenida, mas relacionada al deporte que al racismo lo que la hace emocionante al ser hechos reales.
Great acting and good story. Really keeps you into it
The underdog team must come together to win and learn some life lessons along the way. This time the underdog team is the 1966 Texas Western College basketball team which was the first to put together an all-black starting lineup in NCAA history. This film explores race relations during the late 1960's and does so unfiltered. Some of the scenes are very effective in pulling you into the culture of the time. I'm not sure if it was the writing, editing or direction, but there seemed to be several plot points that were built up that never came to a head or were ignored later in the film. I also think that the score didn't build up the suspense very well. The pop music used in the film seemed appropriate, but disappeared in the second half of the film creating a disconnect. I found the most interesting part of the film was during the credits when they showed interviews of the actual people that were portrayed in the film. If you enjoy this style of film, then give this movie a try, but it isn't for everyone.
this tells a good dramatic story of history which I like, it has a bit of decent laughs to get through and like In Miracle shows a coach with good motivation.
Mid-00s Disney really knocking it out the park. 'Glory Road' is another top film from this period from them. Early on this feels like a 'Remember the Titans', even a 'Coach Carter', copycat but it actually ends up creating its own thing. Those two films are also great, but I felt this one nailed the emotion and rawness of events just that little bit better - the sports action also feels more real, at least to me. Josh Lucas is very good as Don. I don't necessarily think he gives an outstanding performance in the grand scheme of things, but it's a perfect performance for the role itself. Elsewhere, Damaine Radcliff (Cager), Al Shearer (Shed) and Mehcad Brooks (Flournoy) are all good too. Enthralling plot, well written dialogue, terrific score, an important message and a cast that seemed to gave their all. A quality film, even with the usual Disney slant/tendencies. My only criticism? That fake nose on Jon Voight, wow!
It a powerful film that does a great job tackling its tough material. Sort of a Basketball version of Remember the Titans.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Even if you don't like basketball, this is a great film. The acting is well done, the soundtrack is Amazing!! It won an ESPY award and was nominated for other awards as well. Seriously good movie! Highly recommend.
Shocked this isn't better rated. Could they have gone more into depths with the civil rights/racial issues, sure. But it's also a film made for entertainment. Thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like they touched enough upon all the important concepts. I rate it better than coach carter, and maybe even better than remember the Titans. Worth a watch.
While some inconsistencies in tone and character arcs may let the lead slip, Glory Road is still essentially a fair period-piece-sports-drama that has its Disney touch and a charismatic lead in Lucas that's enough to invest in until the final buzzer. 2.95/5
Great story about 7 black players making a statement and change in the game of basketball!
This sports drama was great. Josh Lucas did an excellent job as coach Don Haskins. The rest of the cast were excellent as well. The plot to this movie is very inspirational. It's about teamwork, dignity, integrity, and the will to win. The Texas Western college basketball team in 1966 changed the game of basketball forever. They proved that African Americans have athletic abilities like no other. It's an amazing story and you'll love this movie for sure. Check it out.
A incredible true story in El Paso, Tx, comes to life in yet another Disney feel good movie. However, this is one of the most underrated of the genre. A decent film with everything you want from a transcendent sports movie. If you know anything about the story of the Texas Western (Now University of Texas - El Paso) Miners, you would know that this was the biggest game in the history of African Americans in basketball. Disney did the best they could with the story because of the type of movies they make. Glory Road would have greatly benefited from another studio taking on the project.
Based on a true story and worth watching. I'm not sure why this movie's tomatometer rating is so low. Maybe the racial realities of the 60's made some uncomfortable.
Who likes basketball well I’m a big basketball fan! So count me in!!! Such a good movie that I enjoy watching. You can learn how to play basketball when you see them play along with working as a team. You might get motivated to play basketball when you watch it.
This is a true basketball movie during races times and there was a coach and his name is Don Haskins and he was a college coach and he got people to realize what ever Color you are it doesn’t matter any one can play basketball so he did the right thing! He stopped people from being racist.
