Nathalie... Reviews

Interesting analysis of trust and mistrust between husband and wife and between women; everyone underplays the drama to a simmer which tamps down any drama or stakes

Emmanuelle Beart, you need your mouth washed out! Nathalie is one smutty movie. It deals with a suspicious wife who suspects her husband is having an affair with a sexy stripper (Emmanuelle Beart). In order to find out, she pays the stripper to reveal the sordid, smutty details, which she happily accepts. The husband (Gerard Depardieu) is insistent that he is not having an affair so who is telling the truth?

Cleverly crafted and exceptionally well acted psychological study of marriage, jealousy and sexuality. Anne Fontaine's little potboiler offers a great of challenging insights that will linger long after the movie ends.

At least it makes a bit more sense than the English remake.

Be careful what you ask for...

A nicely shot film about a woman who hire a prostitute to seduce her husband and then tell her what they did together. It's a bit weird but Emmanuelle Beart is as gorgeous as ever.

Simple story made exciting by the fine actors.

Interesting and just a bit weird to watch. Fanny Ardant and Emaanuelle Beart played their roles beautifully.

Este à (C) o original francês do filme que mais tarde foi readaptado para um público americano. O mais estranho à (C) ser bem menos hot e um bocado mais aborrecido que o remake.

The story of Nathalie is about her as a Parisian prostitute who has been chosen by Catherine for a so-called private investigation because she fears that her husband is cheating on her. Nathalie has to seduce her clueless husband and then report regularly all the details of her relationship with him including when she had sexual preferences with him in bed. Nathalie is stunning, charming and cunning but can she be trusted with her reported by her mistrusted wife. This French movie is a solid dramatic flick that will have you gripping slightly and it is fun and sexy as well that will kinda have you laid surprisingly and hopefully thrillingly this movie's smart on the mind and unexpectedly it's just awesome in general. Nathalie gets a 8/10.

You'd think a gynaecologist would know better

I can see why Anne Fontaine wasn't happy when she made "Nathalie". The two lead stars seem to hold a certain distance when they're paired onscreen together, but that's not to say both actresses (Fanny Ardant & Emmanuelle Beart) is bad because they're both equally treading on the jog mill on idle. The two individuals sadly lack interest . Nathalie is the name a Parisian prostitute assumes for a special mission or "private investigation." She is engaged in this unusual and secretive task by a professional, upper-middle-class wife who fears that her husband is unfaithful to her. Nathalie has to seduce the clueless husband and regularly report all details of her relationship with him, including his most intimate sexual preferences in bed. Nathalie is stunning, charming, and cunning... Atom Egoyan made a remake and well his version seems to be better and I think it's due to the fact that Egoyan doesn't hide anything between the relationship with his characters. They express more visually rather then mentally and everything is explained clearly towards the last drop of the picture. Fonatine's version is more mature and grounded. Catherine is attracted to Nathalie but the film won't let her express her attraction that could have been something more. The pace of the picture seemed to have dragged on and on with the same confessional affair story one after the other. Women might enjoy this picture rather then the remake due to the stimulating, erotic talk and no gratuitous sex. If Catherine and Nathalie's relationship was a little bit more moving then muddled, it probably would have left a different impression on me. Overall, I felt somewhat empty.

Nada como la âsutilezaâ? de la que carece Chloe.

(*** 1/2): Thumbs Up A well-acted and seductive film. This film was later remade as another film I liked, Chloe (2010).

I have no idea what the protagonist's motivation is and frankly I am amazed that a woman had anything to do with this movie. It feels like an extended male fantasy. Worse, unlike the Canadian version, there is no lesbian sex (at least Egoyan is good for something). Bah.

I love French films: elegant women who always wear silk blouses, pencil skirts and perfume; wine for lunch and for every other occasion; dialogues to the point without blabbering and a smoking hot seduction. Nathalie has all this and in addition a wonderful Fanny Ardant (as Catherine) and a tantalizing Emmanuelle Béart (as Nathalie) in a firework of vaginal fluid and oestrogen. Gérard Depardieu plays the husband by the way. Well. He doesn't really emerge, too much female energy. French it up!
