Blindness Reviews

Worst movie I have ever watched.

An interesting concept that was poorly executed and ultimately was a movie that sacrificed realism for a progressive message.

Everyone in this movie catches the "white sickness" which is basically blindness. I'm certain someone in Hollywood was extremely happy they came up the idea to put those two words together. This movie felt more like an instruction manual of how they want us to behave when there is a pandemic, such as: comply fully with each and every government order, behave in a submissive manner, allow others to take advantage of us to the point that you will do >anything< they say, only resist and fight back as the very last possible resort (after you've already allowed yourself to be treated like animals). This movie was released in 2008, so they were likely planting the seeds -- along with other pandemic movies that were released. The behavior of some of the characters was absurd and definitely took away from the entertainment value. This movie is somewhat interesting if you watch movies more for their underlying messages than what the movie pretends to be doing. If you haven't a clue what I'm talking about, then please ask someone who does understand to enlighten you. One must always examine the underlying messages/symbolism of anything Hollywood produces, as they are typically pushing agendas and preparing people for situations that they intend to put us in. Once you start to see it, you can no longer ignore it. It's almost as stark as seeing the messages with special sunglasses in They Live.

I've pondered a similar scenario before - what if the focus all of humanity had was suddenly ripped away or just disappeared? Could some neurological form of mass blindness occur?? Would people already wearing eyeglasses be affected??? That out of the way, I found the main premise to be intriguing but there were some problems. The characters speaking in a foreign language thus requiring subtitles was a bad idea. Next, it never really felt like a global pandemic, more of an inmates running the asylum type of situation. Also, it was quite odd that they were just left there with no staff... 2020 and it's global pandemic taught us that would not happen quite like that. Again, the initial premise is intriguing but it ended up unfolding as quite improbable and unbelievable all the way to the big ‘army of blind vs the other army of blind' war when it just becomes laughable. It does give a better sense of the widespread nature of it all and does regain some believability before the end but with nothing really answered. Despite it's faults, it's watchable and entertaining in a macabre sort of way. More horrifying than expected.

New type of pandemic which bring silent & peace, away from the world's chaos. All world's system broke down. Social media, electronic devices, money, fame & wealth become useless. Moore really can act blind, how she been spares is big ? Can't imagine the pressure that she facing. It's getting terribly pure chaos, craziness & disturbing... Even the ending so much?? Haha nice

The main problems with Fernando Meirelles' Blindness, ironically enough, are the visuals. The film is marred with deliberate but inconsistently bleached out color tones, pointless close-ups, distracting camera angles, oddly composed shots, and seizure-inducing handheld camerawork. If you can get past all of that, Meirelles' film is somewhat faithful to Jose Saramago's complex allegorical novel. The fascinating story involves a plague of "white blindness" that strikes mankind and triggers a descent into communal madness. While the film (or the novel, for that matter) doesn't provide a lot of answers, it remains an intriguing insight into the basest instincts of humanity.

A dull, excessively long version of Contagion.

Not the Brazilian director's finest...this one wants to celebrate life, but there was so much darkness in the way its shot it really made the movie almost unwatchable at the pace it's going.

Wasting time watching this crappy movie. Nothing to give to audiences but disturbing!! Pointless! Can't believe this story could become a movie, should just throw It in the bin.

Gritty and thought provoking.

I was surprised to find this film not just engrossing but incredibly well shot. With a white color pallet that is seldom put to screen Blindness is about a city that is suddenly engulfed by something that causes instant blindness. Exquisitely shot and well-paced this is a film that will make for something that will surely fascinate the audience.(Underrated barely seen independent film).

This movie was haunting, an honest reflection of humanity under extreme duress. ITS TOTALLY FRESH. Definite must watch if you're not afraid of confronting your own monsters.

It doesn't matter if nothing is explained in the film. And yet it does matter because that is the whole idea. It's supposed to feel uncomfortable. For me, it was about bringing everyone to the same level of vulnerability and the savage corrupt behavior of desperate human beings when fear takes hold and civility has disappeared. The point of the sudden tragedy of the blindness is about many things. Life can change instantly. Good fortunes can turn to bad fortunes. The illusions of civility is determined by the illusions of good fortune.

I liked it a lot more than most. I would argue that it ends just as it is about to ask some of the most interesting questions.

Loved it. It's touching, obscure, revolting at times.

Blindness is a film about a disease that makes people blind and in order to stop the spread, the blind are quarantined together. I thought the concept of this movie started off strong, but it turned bad and progressively got worse from there. The idea of grouping together a bunch of people who don't know how to deal with being blind, and then one sighted person making it in there with them is interesting. However, it seems that every human being in this film is an idiot. I mean we have a doctor who should know that clearly his wife has some kind of immunity, and therefore she needs to get out of the quarantine as quickly as possible so scientists can work on a cure. But instead he's content to have her be nursemaid to an entire ward full of blind people. Then there's the rest of the people in the ward who are so dumb that they can't realize the woman who always knows how to guide them around can see! Finally, and more befuddling than all the rest, there's the stupidity of the seeing woman who allows herself and others to get raped instead of utilizing her huge advantage in order to take control of the entire situation. No, she has to wait until after one of the women has been murdered in order to decide it might be a good idea to do something. Blindness was literally two long hours of me just saying things like "Wait, why didn't they..." "Hold on, you could just..." "Stop being an idiot, and..." I hated the characters, I hated the story, and I hated them so much that I could not appreciate anything that might have been positive about the movie. I imagine there were some artistic choices that were interesting, and the unique look at what happens when society breaks down was special, but I couldn't care less because it was presented in the stupidest way possible. Just thinking about this movie again is making me want to punch something.
