The Princess and the Frog Reviews

Mar 9, 2025

A groundbreaking Southern animation musical ever with really great storytelling and loveable characters and Keith David sounds absolutely marvelous as The Shadowman yet there's some scary parts but it will make you laugh dance and try Southern food from New Orleans.

A great Disney movie filled with nostalgia animation. This movie is the only one that takes place in the US, the most modern set as it takes place during the Jazz era of New Orleans, and it has the first African American princess. All of this movie feels amazing from the songs and the characters. Also has one of the best messages to the people watching. Definitely one of my top three favorite Disney Princess movies along with Brave and Beauty and the Beast.

**The Princess and the Frog** is proof that 2D animation still has magic left to give. No nostalgia goggles here—I watched it for the first time, and wow, what a ride! New Orleans in the '20s is *perfectly* captured, not just in the visuals but in the *feel* of the film. That jazzy soundtrack? Absolute fire. Every song fits like a glove, setting the mood just right. Tiana and Naveen’s love story? Cute and full of charm. Dr. Facilier? Easily one of Disney’s coolest villains—stylish, creepy, and oozing charisma. The comedy lands, the side characters are loveable, and the animation? A gorgeous blend of classic Disney with a fresh touch. Never a dull moment. I was sick with the flu, but somehow, this film made me feel better. If this isn't a sign that 2D animation needs to make a comeback, I don’t know what is.

One of if not my favorite Disney movie. The soundtrack is memorable, the visuals are stunning, the characters are relatable and memorable, strong quoting power, powerful storytelling. The message of the story about not only love but following your dreams is so potent I will always remember my first watch.

A very good spin on a classic fairy tale turned into a Roaring 20s fever dream romance that is thrilling, sweet, and beautiful with a threatening villain played by the spectacular Keith David. Disney never disappoints when they play to their strengths, and this movie is full of the strengths Disney always should play to. With a riveting cast starring Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campo, Jim Cummings, and, of course, Keith David, the movie shone as brightly as Evangeline and Ray did.

I loved it. It was a great movie. Louis the crocodile was SO GOOD and is probably the best Disney talking animal. It's a good movie if you like heartfelt movies and a good movie if you like animation and a good movie if you like romance-it basically checks all the boxes for being a good movie, whatever you like to watch.

This movie is pretty good, from it's 2D animation to its story to it's music and characters. It is a pretty fun time, but don't except to see Tiana in human form for a lot of the movie.

Hollywood is always learning the wrong lessons. Case in point, "The Princess and the Frog" underperformed at the box-office. The lesson that Disney took from this was: "Well, I guess people don't want to see 2D animated films anymore." I actually got the opportunity to ask the president of Disney Animation if he foresaw any 2D animated films in the company's future. He responded that, despite being a fan of that style, the company has no plans of going forward with that. That was back in 2012, and true to his word they have not made another traditionally animated feature. That is the wrong lesson to learn, because the animation for this film is beautiful. Some unfortunate timing and marketing helped spell this film's low return. In this same year we had "Secret of Kells", "Coraline", Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "Up", all some of the greatest animated films in their own right, tough competition to say the least. OK, enough of setting the context of the situation, how is the film. It's good. The animation, the music and voice acting are all really good. The characters of Dr. Faciler, (voiced excellently by Keith David) and Tiana are some of the all-time Disney greats. Tiana is a great example for young viewers. She has a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. Despite these strengths, she still goes on a character arc, leans a lesson and progresses through the adventure. And it could be that Dr. Faciler is the last great Disney villain for the last 15 years. The story is just uninspired. The setting of the swamp gets old pretty fast. The premise of our characters getting turned into animals, is one that I, and other audience members, have seen a dozen times too many. And the way circumstances play out is both overly convoluted and cliched. It is a step in the right direction for Disney animation, it is just a shame that it slips up a little on the way.

Me encanta esta película! es increíble como Disney ha bajado su calidad en estos años...La cinta tiene personajes muy adorables como los son Tiana y Charlotte, La recomiendo si no sabes que ver!!

Icon, beautiful, masterpeice. I can't find a single flaw in this film. Frogs and voodoo magic by a skinny legend (that I would smash) need I say more. It is the last one it's kind and timeless. A watch for all ages.

Good and deserved its rewatch!

This animation is simply fantastic, it teaches how we need to work hard to achieve our dreams.

A good movie with a great message. The animation is beautiful, but it misses a little something to be a great Disney Classic. Is it character depth? Maybe! Or maybe it’s the story that misses a bit of depth.

It’s a pretty good film. I watched this with my cousin when we were kids. It’s pretty emotional and dark.

My daughter loves it. Has that old Disney feel to it. I didn't even know it was made that recently.

Second time watching this film. I didn't dislike it as much as the first time I watched it, but I just can't help feeling so uncompelled by this story. And don't even get me started on the songs. There are like two memorable songs in this movie and those are the only two I really enjoy. Visuals are nice in this but it's obvious that Disney wanted to shovel this out since it was their last 2D film.
