Quarantine Reviews

I liked thus movie way better then that overhyped Mads movie with a higher rating on Rt. At least, I could care about Jennifer Carpenter's character in this movie. I really liked this one.

Ugh. This movie totally sucked. The premise is ok, but it's basically a Zombie flick that has all of the characters acting abnormally and senseless. I can suspend disbelief but when the people do things that make no sense at all= it makes me disconnect from them. I hated this movie and won't keep it in my collection, which has a decent amount of fluff in it.

Had a decent plot to begin with, however, around the halfway point of the movie it devolves into complete Hysteria. The attempted scares aren’t impactful because there’s no tension or really anything but screaming and whimpering for the entire rest of the movie. The female main character is responsible for a decent %90 of the crying and whimpering that goes on too, incredibly annoying. All around just a bad watch, the gore is okay in parts but everything else falls so short it’s hard to justify any parts as redeemable.

The only decent actor was the one playing the little girl Brianna, the rest acted like they are pulled from adult movies, the best way a remake will be better than the original is with good acting, if you keep the exact same script but use lower actors, you just wasted the budget

There are two words to describe this film: annoying and exhausting.

Movie remakes are ALWAYS controversial and rarely done correctly. The Dawn of the Dead reboot of 2004 took one of the absolute best zombie movies of all time and updated every aspect of it, so it felt INSPIRED BY its source material but ultimately its own thing. This reboot takes that in a different direction and instead opts to do a shot-for-shot remake of its source material, the fantastic Spanish found footage zombie film "REC". What I'm about to say is a cardinal sin, and I'm sure if I'm ever found I'll be flogged and crucified by horror lovers... but I prefer this version over REC. Not by a lot, but I do prefer it. Mostly because this version completely throws away the paranormal aspects of the original and instead changes the zombie affliction to be an actual biological VIRUS instead. This in my opinion makes the film that much more grounded in reality and believable, making it that much more unsettling. Instead of the apartment on the top floor being the scene of a twisted satanic ritual, it's the scene of a science experiment with viruses by a doomsday cult looking to bring upon the end of humanity. It is a literal rabies-like virus this time, not just an affliction which APPEARS to be rabies like, which is the case in the original story. Everything good that can be said about the original film can be said here too... the acting is believable, everything has a real sense of weight and urgency, the gore is semi-realistic and well done, and the atmosphere is fantastic. The overly negative reviews are completely unjustified and this film is 100% worth a watch if you're a fan of REC, or zombie movies in general. Recommended.

As far as low budget horror goes, this was fine. Very middle of the road for its genre.

It’s OK It’s a decent remake, but does have some cool differences, but I just recommend the original

There are two ways of looking at ‘Quarantine.’ The first is that it’s actually the (Hollywood) remake of Spanish classic horror film ‘REC.’ If you’ve already seen REC then you probably don’t need to see the remake. It doesn’t bring anything new to the story and is – almost – a shot for shot remake, albeit in English without the subtitles. However, if you can’t be bothered watching the Spanish film with English subtitles (and you’re also a bit of a horror/zombie fan) then you may appreciate 'Quarantine.' It’s one of those ‘found footage’ films. This basically means that it’s shot from point-of-view at all times, as we follow a reporter ('Dexter’s' Jennifer Carpenter) as she reports on a fire crew who have been called in to investigate a building late at night. Of course things go horribly wrong when the Government seal off the premises, trapping those left inside with a horde of ravenous zombies. The zombies are the ‘modern’ type – no George Romero ‘shufflers’ here. Instead, we have the type who run at you while screaming into the camera and doing their best to bite your head off. It’s worth making mention of the film’s set. It was a purpose-built apartment complex, made specially for the film. Therefore the cast can run pretty much where they like and you get a good sense of their claustrophobic environment. Plus, having a decent leading actress helps elevate 'Quarantine' over the dozens of run-of-the-mill zombie/B-movies out there. With so many undead movies out there, it’s difficult to get that excited over 'Quarantine.' However, if you’re not (also) totally sick of ‘found footage’ movies, haven’t seen 'REC' and feel like sitting through quite an intense little offering, then you might like to give this one a go.

Not as scary as [●REC], the acting isn't as good either. 6/10.

(DVD, 7/13/24, Horror, Mystery/Thriller) Quick shot: A reporter and her cameraman are doing a story on night-shift firefighters for reality tv. All is quiet until they get a call...A nice entry into the hand-held camera (a.k.a. "shakycam") subgenre of horror. The pacing is very good, lots of effective jump scares, a tsunami of panic, a splash of gore and a wonderfully committed performance by Jennifer Carpenter, of Dexter fame, make this a film more than worth 90 minutes of your time.

Have we tired of the same antics every time a movie about moving dead bodies is on? This movie feel like it brought back all the worse things: a uselessly loud and forever in panic mode main character who will pull every leg available who you wish she is the first to go; a plot which you can understand even without concentration - cause how little there is; everything happens in the dark because it's found-tape. After watching, the only thing that is left of me is heachache from the main character constant screaming and heavy breathing. An hour wasted.

15 years later and this is still a very good found footage horror flick by director John Erick Dowdle It’s actually a remake of a Spanish film with essentially the same premise Jennifer Carpenter stars as news reporter Angela Vidal doing a story on the city’s fire department in Los Angeles A reality tv program it starts out then they het a distress call Angela and the fire fighters respond to it hoping to get something juicy but when they arrive at an apartment residence the real horror begins when they discover one of them is infected with a deadly virus; the victims become somewhat rabid and savage losing all human instincts except to feed and kill Angela and the others are then locked in the building by the CDC even warned to not escape lest they face being shot on sight The film is intense as it breezes by in under 89 min full of scares, jolts, blood, and decent thrills The handheld camera movement serves it very well making you feel like you’re trapped with these people The movie if you think about it is actually way more disturbing given the pandemic we’ve just been through; getting attacked by something unknown and seeing the results of it unfold Anyone of us can be off put by chaos ensuing, not knowing what to do, and having to face harsh intervention by our own government People need to see the truth, how much is being covered up by the authorities, is quarantining people off the safest route or more dangerous having us turn on each other? Probably the most scary thing is the government coming in promising to help you but in reality they’re trying to kill you to contain this virus Good acting, strong atmosphere, and some good frights make this found footage flick a scary experience by Dowdle The only complaint i had was the ending; they give some backstory via newspaper articles but none of it is thoroughly explored It just cuts to the credits so quick without any resolution Yet you can feel that modern post 9/11 domestic terror being metaphorical and a literal genocidal rat race to make it out alive

This one was awesome! Not as good as the original REC but the remake was still a blast!

Assessing the quality of the picture is hard, it is good but it looks more like a film than digital video though and it shakes too much. I don't think that a camera operator working in news would make this. It is shot (deliberately) too badly. Lighting is excellent as is the sound, again which isn't believable but you have to let it go. Visual effects are simple and effective. Ok ok this is a remake of [rec] (2007) so not that original but for me this does it so much better. I like the creativity in creating a horror movie with a different vibe. It is like an intense haunted house ride with monsters jumping out all the time. It is so well done. I'm notching it down on creativity as it is almost a direct remake. This is really intense. I prefer it to the original because it is in English and has some polish. They also tweaked the little bits that weren't perfect to make this the best it can be, for example the pacing. It is scary in places but really the star is the intensity. It never lets you have a rest and bombards you with terror. This grew on me to become a ‘modern' horror classic.

An obvious replica of [REC] without any of the scares or brains behind what made it incredible to begin with.

A decent found footage horror film.
