17 Again Reviews
Clever teen comedy that understands the frustrations of being a teen

A surprisingly enjoyable body swap comedy. Efron is winsome in his first non-HSM vehicle and while the incest storyline is cringey, he and Mann have great chemistry. Far too much Lennon, however.

The relatability and vulnerability that Perry brings to Mike are what truly elevates 17 Again.

Here’s the shocker: the movie is pretty good, no matter how many times you’ve seen the whole body-switch phenomenon, and no matter how silly the MacGuffin.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 5, 2023
Yes, we've seen this shtick before, but Efron's charm is effortless, Mann is dependably funny, and Lennon's sci-fi obsessed dork almost steals the show when, posing as Mike's father, he tries to woo the school's starchy principal.

Seems an odd choice for Efron in his stated goal to become a serious adult actor.
| Original Score: 2.5/4.0 | Sep 22, 2020
A pleasantly predictable body-swap comedy. Nothing more, nothing less.

17 Again may be somewhat derivative in terms of its set-up and execution, but it's light, breezy and enjoyable enough thanks to the strength of all those on screen.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 29, 2019
Having previously shown that he can dance with the best of them, Efron now proves that he can act as well.

Endearingly funny.

The good news is Efron can carry a movie on his own; he just needs to be more picky about what he chooses ... despite some good scenes, the script is too lazy for anyone to really save.

It knows it has one thing going for it: teen idol Zac Efron. So it shows off that boy from beginning to end: shaggy hair, dreamy eyes, etc. ... '17 Again' is a virtual Efronathon, and I can't imagine his fans complaining.

Efron's adequate but completely anonymous work keep this from achieving true liftoff.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 31, 2009
17 Again is a reasonably entertaining time at the theater, offering something both for youngsters ... and for their parents.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Aug 30, 2009
While it's not in the same classic league, the movie has a nice Back to the Future vibe to it.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 15, 2009
...ultimately fits comfortably within the pantheon of above-average body-switching comedies.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 14, 2009
Efron, whose biggest onscreen drawback is his ever-changing '60s mod hairdo, owns almost every moment, milking the minimal laughs available while playing up the material's maudlin strengths.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 9, 2009
It's cute and sweet and generally inoffensive.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Aug 9, 2009
Zac Efron couldn't ask for a more flattering breakout vehicle than the charming 17 Again
| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 7, 2009
I'd never be 17 again.
