The Crazies Reviews
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Some of the acting wasn't the greatest, but the general atmosphere is quite good, and the way it's filmed is well done. The beginning of the movie is brighter, warm feeling colors, and as the story progresses it's very dark, greys and cold colors. Worth a watch for sure
Loved it.. moves at a good pace. Whilst there are a couple of moments of corny acting (towels/bedroom), overall I think the acting pulls of a good (better than original) remake. The special effects are good without going over the top, story line pretty much believable (in the fiction world), and tension kept up from the get go. Its also relatively a good intro to horror for mid to late teens. (not too much swearing, sex or repetitive gore). But why oh why cant wives and girlfriends stay out of trouble!!!! (joke :))
Everything you want in a remake: staying true to the original’s vision while leveling up its execution.
It is managing to maintain suspense well. Good enough, even as a remake. Despite its inevitable, curtisophical doom amongst modern part-time critics.
A brilliant take on the infection sub genre, showing how anger can take hold of the human mind, at the hands of a deadly virus. It was a very beautifully shot film, with many of the scenes bringing me awe. The character development and the stories fluidity however, could've been improved, as with a longer run time or more focus on the development, i believe that the film would've felt more fluid and that i would have gained a stronger feeling towards the characters. All in all, it was a solid film, that had many things it did great and some things it could've improved upon
This is very well made but it is not great. It is just about above average. Considering that most people will have some basic idea of what this film is about having read the synopsis or seen the trailer, I think that they spend way too long setting up the premise. Even if you knew nothing about this film you would work out what they are building up to way before they get there. And this build-up offers very little in the way of characterisation but that is because the characters are generic and forgettable. Although, if you buy into the atmosphere then this setup is not as tedious as it sounds. The problem is that the forced jump scares go against this atmosphere. And this atmosphere is further ruined with some mild comedy. I saw the original The Crazies (1973) a long time ago so I don’t remember it that well but I can fairly confidently say that this film is better than the original but less memorable. There are some good gore and violence but plenty of convenient and unrealistic moments with them. The ending is a bit of an anticlimax.
A highly respectable and respectful script (with a healthy dose of wit); commendable standard of acting; impressive special effects; relentless and at times claustrophobic tension - all combine to allow us to overlook the occasional holes in the plot.
Very entertaining. Underrated and thrilling.
Damn I'm glad I decided on this ✌🏾
Fantastically entertaining flick. Timothy Olyphant will forever be one of the greatest Hollywood stars that has been greatly overlooked. And he brings his A-game as usual, and so does the rest of the cast. Particularly Joe Anderson as Olyphants cohort. The movie has an intriguing start, maniacal middle and an awesome ending. Brilliantly directed, edited and really well written. The movie has moments that flip stereotypes on it's head, and the movie subverts a lot of expectations you'd have as an avid movie watcher because you expect certain things to happen. And there are things characters do in a movie that are purely done because the director wants you to feel something. Well, in this movie that happens, but ends up being the correct decision by the characters because it ends up literally saving their lives. So I respect the heck out of this movie. Thank you!
fun movie because of timothy olyphant, my GOAT

I highly recommend this 2010 remake of the George A Romero classic. It is a very good remake, which I'll admit was a pleasant surprise. The great man himself, George A. Romero, ensured it was relatively faithful to the original, serving as an Executive Producer. Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell lead a solid cast, which benefits from well-realised characters, great pacing and an ever-increasing sense of dread. Where this remake succeeds over the original is in the early set-up, laying valuable ground work to establish some background for the main characters, which ensures you are engaged with them from the outset. Additionally, the movie starts cautiously, and escalates gradually, giving the town's main characters time to experience the evils that have enveloped their community before external entities came into the story. The original movie immediately started with the military already on the scene within the first 5 minutes, giving no time to develop the main characters into people whose fate you can became invested in. I actually watched the remake first, then watched the original directly after (as I could not recall ever seeing it previously). Overall, the 2010 remake of The Crazies stands on its own. Solid acting, well-developed and likeable characters, some very tense and chilling moments and thrilling action sequences make this a horror-thriller well worth your time.
This was such a compelling movie with good acting and storyline. I liked it so much I bought the Blu-ray years ago.
The acting is disgustingly bad, and it drags down even the best written parts of the script, which is already slow as hell. Seriously, how come a script filled with well-positioned action still feels like a rhytmic disaster like this?
One of the best remakes ever horror wise
The remake version is really terrifying shocking and a total pandemic nightmare horror movie is like Snyder's Cut Dawn of the Dead meets Justified.
