Warrior Reviews
This movie captures a very real and emotional atmosphere throughout the film, the writing and and delivery of the dialogue was fantastic. Nick Nolte absolutely steals the show, and in my opinion this was his best performance in his career.
I really don't understand some people's criticism regarding the realism. Of COURSE it's not realistic but this story isn't about real...it's about pain, redemption, and forgiveness. I was not an MMA fan when I first watched this movie but this is by far one of the most gripping, emotional, and well crafted sports movies I have EVER seen. How they resolved this conflict between Tommy, his brother, Brendon, and father was absolutely perfect. I was a complete mess watching this movie. A complete mess. You know that Brendan was going to take care of his brother in the end. Incredible acting performances by the entire cast. Nick Nolte was incredible! The pacing was perfect. This film, unfortunately, was released at the wrong time. If released in 2020s, it would have received some Oscar nominations. Do not listen to the haters. Do not listen to the realist. This is not about winning an MMA match. It's about something much deeper. It's a MUST watch movie!
Brilliant movie! For a low budget film about a relatively unknown sport for its time it certainly delivers, just imagine the success it would have today with the global powerhouse the UFC has become.
While there are a bevy of cliches in the story, Warrior is great thanks to some incredible performances, great direction, some striking cinematography & gripping dialogue that grounds the drama in reality.
The father-son relationship played out across two drastically different timelines generates an emotional intensity that you can feel through the screen. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton as brothers are drastically different but undoubtedly connected by a trauma that you feel like you experienced yourself. The fight scenes, while unrealistic in nature, will have you standing out of your seat and cheering. Get over the fact the outcome is a trillion-to-1, this movie is a winner through and through.
Sincerely, if this movie had been released 20 years earlier, it would've been nominated across the board. Brilliant performances by Hardy and Edgerton, but the supporting cast lead by Nolte, Morrison, and Grillo is just as great. Nolte's portrayal of Paddy Conlin will have you emotional in every scene. The script is rich with story and substance, the directing is stellar, and the score is powerful. Easily one of the top 3 fight movies of all time; along side Rocky and Raging Bull.
Beautiful movie, amazing mma scenes, one of my favorite ones to watch.
First half of the movie is really good, with some great acting - especially from Nick Nolte who is awesome - and you're not really sure what direction the story takes. Unfortunately in the second half - the BIIIIIG fighting tournament - of the movie, the story goes the usual/obvious Hollywood way and turns into a too long MMA version of the Rocky sequels of the 1980/90s. So you more or less know what will happen and how the movie will end, which makes the second half quite boring.
Hits all the right feels while showcasing amazing performances by Hardy, Edgerton and Nolte turning this film into one of my favorites of the past 2 decades. A must see even if you aren't a MMA fan.
Probably my favorite movie of all time. Sibling rivalry subverted and yet at its most basic, a depth of emotion that still seizes my heart on the 10th rewatch, a confrontation of when/if we deserve redemption and forgiveness, and the depths we'll go to make amends to those we love. There is no perfect movie, but this one is pretty close.
Absolute must watch for all mma fans like myself
Just finished the last episode…Wow, can’t wait until season four comes!!! Hopefully it will! This is awesome series for those who can stand violence. There are so many layers: brotherhood, friendship, love, greed, thirst for power etc! Very much worth watching if you have strong stomach!
Fantastic storytelling! It’s a family story full of depth, meaningful dialogue, and compelling characters, all disguised as a fight movie.
Tom Hardy & Joel Edgerton han hecho un trabajo espectacular en su actuación, sientes la desesperación de los protagonistas sus combates, realmente es un final tan sentimental que me saco lagrimas.
I mean this is one of the greatest drama films of all-time. The acting is tremendous, the story is wild, but it works. Don’t be surprised if this movie makes you cry. Finally a damn good MMA film.
Hidden gem that I missed upon initial release and only watched over a recommendation from a friend. So glad I did. Lots of heart with acting of the highest level from a great cast. Nolte steals the show acting wise. 2 completely different characters as the leads but both with their own reasons to like and cheer on. Moving at times and fighting scenes very realistic. Really enjoyed this one.
If normal people instead of high flutes chose the movies for Academy Awards this would have won one hands down.
If you’re into artsy fartsy you probably will not get this film. If you have played a sport, have a brother, or lived in the real world you’re gonna love this! Fantastic acting by all 4 stars, great story line, and unbelievable cinematography, this is as compelling a story as the original Rocky. I’ve watched it twice, a few years apart, and I was simultaneously on the edge of my seat and crying both times. I highly recommend this to all you “salt of the earth” types. You won’t be disappointed.
good movie, bad ending, plot armor for brendan, it seems that brendan is a god of some sorts where he takes punches and punches, and looks like he doesn't feel them, the rest of the story i liked really much the charecter development really sucks you in, both brothers backstories are really emotional and you can relate with their feelings and determinations.
