The Collector Reviews
While it has intense, suspenseful and eery scenes, with a good makeup and (sometimes) good cinematography, the film has its fair share of weirdness when it comes to operating the camera and a big problem with deciding what to do with its characters. The ending, in particular, sucks.
First off, hated the animal murder parts, just for those who are like me and dislike animal harm, 2 scenes, not long but it's in there. Kind of like Home Alone meets Saw. If Kevin McAllister grew up to be a more psycho version of John Kramer. The whole movie is inspired by Saw from the green hue lighting and grainy film, to the music and traps. The main character is actually pretty good and likable. Very gory, the kills are decent. Mask is cool. Horrible cgi bugs and it was quite obvious at the start who the killer was going to be.
This movie is one of the most thrilling experiences ever. The gore, traps and characters are very good. I really liked it. Ending was a bit weak but rest is beatiful!
Home Alone for adults that like gore and industrial music and grainy camera
With fairly enjoyable lead character, a horror icon that has potential, gruesome gore effects and eerie lighting, make horror version of home alone a underrated horror gem.
Felt a bit stretched at the end and I don't like the ending but overall movie is decent.
Better than enticipated. Actually kept me on the edge of my seat and interested until the end. The end was stupid though not because of the killer but because of the police and paramedics.
Don't know why it was titled The Collector as it has next to nothing to do with the novel or 1965 movie. Either way, it's a phobe especially for the ass on acting.
I had a hard time buying the setup for this movie. I mean... so the family hasn't actually left town, but this guy has hours to Home Alone this house, I'm guessing??? And nobody has called the police? Not even the two kids? One was in the house hiding, and one was gone for the entire time the booby traps were being assembled. I suppose he disabled the 2 adults first, and then he booby trapped the house. And the hiding kid doesn't have a cell phone even though this is a rich family, I suppose. It's really bothering me. I know you have to suspend disbelief, but this scenario is making me do too much questioning. He's not even a neat criminal. He's messy; he should have been caught long ago as much mess as he creates. His crimes create a huge footprint, and his victim knows his modus operandi, and yet he still hasn't been caught. Ugh.

the collector is like home alone if it was a horror movie and i love it, and the ending is one of my favorites.
This is one of the best horror films! People have horrible taste to not rate this higher
No scares, no characters and a poor rip off of a million better films.
A slasher film that had a unique premise, but ultimately fell flat with its over the top scenes and situations.
Creepy and cringe Defend your life with a psychopath. This film really makes my heart work out. The scene is very scary and there is no censorship at all, it makes my feet feel cold when watching this film... This film is not worth watching with small children or teenagers... only specially for adults who have strong mentality and steel. 10 stars for this film.
It's actually pretty good, if you ignore pockets of poor acting (Loan Shark et al). The stuff at the house is pretty clever, and at times suspenseful. One thing that gets tiring in these types of films, is the misogynistic stereotype that female characters don't listen, won't think, and are less intelligent than the male protagonist(s)
I can't believe it took me 13 years to finally watch this movie. If I'm being honest, it's been on my radar for a long time but the existing critic AND viewer/fan reviews scared me away from jumping on it. I love horror movies in the Saw-like genre, so landing on this flick seemed like a natural choice. That being said, this movie wasn't great, but it wasn't a complete waste of 90 minutes - I work night shift and mostly in low lighting and I watched this movie at work, so I chose the right ambiance for it. What this movie lacked in logic, plot and character development, it made up for in jump scares, shock and raw gore. Things I wanted to know but never found out... WHO is the Collector? How long has he been doing this? How many people has he killed and/or collected? Where does he keep the people ("bait") he chooses not to kill? What's his true motivation? Why did he choose this house on this night? Why these people? How does he decide which household person to "collect"? I assume he was targeting the baby girl, since he trapped and brutally killed the parents? The nature and mechanisms of the collector's traps were morbidly fascinating to me, but how did he have so much time to install ALL of them while the hubby and wife were out for a night on the town? The overall tone of the movie was very dark and I had a feeling of helplessness and dread the minute Arkin realized he couldn't leave the house. And I guess the fact that the movie elicited this response from me and caused me to "feel" anything...is a sign of a watchable horror movie. Watch it if you have 90 minutes to spare, just don't expect A-list cast and top tier acting and you'll enjoy it for what it was intended to be.
