28 Days Later Reviews

Terribly shot. The camera was shaking to much and couldn't see anything. Crappy overrated movie.

This is by far my all time favourite zombie flick. The camera quality leaves some to be desired, but the way it's shot and some of the camera angles is so unique and the tone of helplessness/ dismay is beautifully translated on to screen. Cillian Murphy's performance is great and I do think this is a must watch for any fan of the zombie/ horror genre. Love this film

There is no way this movie's rating is this high. It has to be one of the most poorly written movies ever.

I first watched this movie over 2 years ago and didn’t like it that much then, especially as the film progressed. However, I gave it a second chance and it’s actually quite good now in my opinion! I’m happy I gave it another shot since I knew I was missing something. The cinematography feels very old-fashioned which gives it a gritty and authentic feeling and the soundtrack/score is good too! It had good, scary moments as well as tense scenes that kept you focused, even beautiful and wholesome moments! The zombies actually felt threatening in this film and looked pretty cool! While I was still bothered slightly by some of the quick camera cuts and the story getting a bit side-tracked with the main characters trying to escape the infantry-men at the base camp, I was still mostly entertained. This is actually one of the better horror movies I’ve seen now!

My all time favorite zombie movie

The quality of the movie is bad, as others have pointed out already. Other than that, it's a very entertaining watch and I'm looking forward to seeing the two sequels that came out after this movie was released.

The one that started it all in the zombie world. A movie shot on a digital camera at 480p, a rarity back then, which adds a unique feel and creates a perfect atmosphere. I watched it now after 20 years and it gave me the same feeling as when I was a kid, this is where my fascination with zombies began. I can't believe my dad let me watch this!

It still blows my mind how this movie never really got a streaming release for years, because 28 Days Later was so good. The story they build of these characters is such an intense world where zombies exist and the humans are even more disgusting is brilliant. This was definitely one of my favourite Cillian Murphy performances and I loved the chemistry he had with Naomie Harris. The atmosphere and feel of this movie was scary good, I really love the way they handled the cinematography of it being shot on a vhs camera throughout the entire thing to make it feel way older than it actually was, and even though shakey cam gets annoying for me, I think it was well played out in this movie especially with the zombie point of view shots. It did lack in horror for me a lot but this is definitely one of the best zombie projects I’ve seen. I think it’s worth a watch

Though it may not claim the title of the definitive zombie apocalypse film—a distinction forever tied to George A. Romero’s timeless NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD—28 DAYS LATER endures, its grim, unvarnished edge growing ever more resonant with time.

28 Days Later - 10/10. Fantastic and visceral, 28 Days Later is an example of small budget filmmaking going the extra mile in making sure every dollar is spent to the maximum. This “zombie” movie (interesting how Danny Boyle shied away from calling it one) is an iconic and path breaking one in the genre. Yes, you have fast moving zombies which broke the norm of the slow but menacing ones. But what made this film so amazing was the acting, atmosphere, visuals, and just general believability that this was how it could be had a virus of this nature came out. I made the regrettable decision to watch many pandemic/apocalyptic movies during March 2020 (Contagion, I Am Legend, and World War Z being some of the films I watched). Luckily I skipped watching this movie during that time. Danny Boyle does a fantastic job of making this an “in your face” film. The close ups of the violent carnage don’t allow you any sort of reprieve, and it really throws you in a loop for what’s to come next. You feel for Cillian Murphy’s character as he (and the audience) delve into this new world where things are never gonna be the same. That iconic first 10 minutes of the film really sets the stage for the rest of the movie, and if any apocalypse film needs inspiration as to how to make the setting for your story, then look no further than this opening. And nice move making this movie by filming on video cameras. It lends this movie this very different and distinct look. Almost like you’re watching HD security footage that follows this character as he enters what you can say is quite literally Dante’s Inferno. I’m genuinely curious as to how they will continue this story in 28 Years Later, but we’ll have to wait and see!

What a classic movie that has come back into the spotlight! This is one of the great things about streaming services—they allow a new audience to discover films even after 20 years. The movie still feels fresh and was groundbreaking for its time. The performances are outstanding all around, but young Cillian Murphy stands out particularly well.

28 Days Later stands out as one of the most exceptional and well-crafted interpretations of what a zombie movie should be. Its simplicity works to its advantage, offering a storyline that is compelling and accessible without becoming overly complex. From start to finish, the film holds its audience in suspense, driven by stellar acting that brings an unsettling sense of realism to the horror. While undeniably disturbing at times, it remains an enjoyable experience for fans of the genre, delivering both thrills and depth. The story is masterfully constructed, weaving horror with thought-provoking themes that leave a lasting impression. Ultimately, 28 Days Later is an enlightening masterpiece, elevating the zombie genre with its sharp execution and meaningful exploration of humanity under pressure.

I really don't get the hype and high score. Maybe it was revolutionary in some way back in the day? The movie is just ok. The premisse is good, but that's about it. I don't hate it, nor love it. Would I watch again? Nope. Do I recommend it? Nope. Don't waste your time.

A horror classic with a lot to say, '28 Days Later' is still as good today as it's ever been.

A classic that I've been enjoying for the past 20 years.

A pretty good take on the zombie apocalypse with grounded characters, grungy rock music, plenty of zombie-related thrills, and some good tension with the surviving human characters ultimately being the real threat. Great setup in the beginning with the coma patient waking up way after the zombie pandemic has begun and trying to figure out what's going on. It isn't my personal favorite, but I still had a good time with this version of the undead.
