A Million Ways to Die in the West Reviews
It's longer than it needs to be but A Million Ways to Die in the West still brings the laughs--and what should be considered an iconic soundtrack--over a decade later.

There weren’t many big narrative surprises but there were several cameos that are totally worth seeing. If you like this kind of comedy, you’ll get what you want.

Say what you want about Seth MacFarlane, that man can write a "guy pooping into a hat" joke that'll really make you think. But unfortunately, too much of A Million Ways To Die In The West is oddly serious and laugh-free.

Despite occasionally being clever in how it pokes fun about the misery of the Old West, it ultimately fails to be anything more than an attempt from MacFarlane to endear himself to the audience.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 20, 2023
Almost nothing about the film works, and it leaves us wondering why anyone involved thought this was going to be funny.
| Original Score: 0.5/4 | Aug 15, 2022
McFarlane's movie does have at least one classic moment that will appeal to Generation Xers and the most undignified duel ever, but it doesn't have much sardonic resonance.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 1, 2021
There are quite possibly a million reasons why Seth MacFarlane's second movie A Millions Ways to Die in the West is not a good movie, but you only need one: it's not funny.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Jan 31, 2021
MacFarlane's signature song-and-dance routines and nicely placed cameos win out over the arguable faults.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Dec 4, 2020
A Million Ways to Die in the West is an awkwardly paced, overly long, and wildly uneven film.
| Original Score: 1.5/4.0 | Aug 30, 2020
Surface laughs will only carry you so far, and there has to be something more substantial in a movie this long, but there isn't anything.
| Original Score: C | Jul 8, 2020
While it does suffer from the old syndrome of most of the funny parts being in the trailer, there are still plenty of funny jokes that weren't. Unfortunately, there still aren't enough funny jokes to fill the movie's runtime.

It equally offended and bored me.

Even if I was drunk or high it would have been stupid and boring.

Overall, A Million Ways to Die in the West is entertaining and funny, and it is great to see [Seth] MacFarlane in a live-action role.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Nov 20, 2019
It would be easier to shrug off writer/director/actor/egomaniac Seth McFarlane's blatant racism and misogyny if he was funny or had a point. Alas, he isn't and he doesn't.

The best stuff is when McFarlane plays up the rag-tangled daftness of the genre, which is perhaps why comparisons to Mel Brooks may not be entirely defunct.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 22, 2019
Good idea, indeed, but the lazy writing resorts to tiresome clichés, thinly-sketched characters, gags that for the most part miss their mark, sloppy narrative and a script in which most lines feature the F-word and derivatives thereof.

This is like watching a mediocre episode of "Family Guy" that is four times longer and much cruder.
| Original Score: C | Feb 1, 2019
There are hilarious things within A Million Ways to Die in the West, there are cringe-worthy things, and there are many elements in between.
| Original Score: B | Jan 15, 2019
The problem with the film is that Seth MacFarlane (the director) has been tasked with making a leading man out of Seth MacFarlane (the actor).
