A Real Pain Reviews
Great concept. Can’t say I ever saw a film about cousins. Would have loved a better ending & there was room to do so. Not sure why the writers decided to end it like that.
Performances from Eisenberg and Culkin were great. I think the other characters could have been fleshed out more to make the story more multi-dimensional. I also bought the big reveal about Culkin's character in a monologue was a bit abrupt. Obviously Eisenberg made a conscious decision not to have flashbacks in the film, but maybe there could have been a better way to communicate the characters challenges.
The movie was very slow and left us all confused
Outstanding performances make this film worth seeing. Funny and touching, it is a bit of an emotional roller coaster… like real life can be.
Really enjoyed this. Quirky, educational, emotional, well acted. Glad we saw it.
Very, very much a one-note film. If you like Kieren Culkin, you are in for a treat. Otherwise, i would stay home.
Honest heartfelt portrayals. Sensitively handled painful scenes. Acting was unusually interesting and complex. Totally invoked throughout the movie.
There was parts were it was really uncomfortable. But it drove the conversation for our date night. If you discuss the movie its a movie that makes you think.
Thought it was going to be a Buddy movie. Starts out with one of the characters using the F bomb which immediately turned me off. Two very different cousins travel abroad which causes friction. Not my kind of story.
Brilliant screenplay, wonderful story & excellent acting.
Enjoyed this quirky film.
loved the humor and the serious conversations - the acting was great
an outspoken, abrasive, over sensitive boy takes a trip with his cousin.
Kieran Culkin is tragic and hilarious and totally believable. Great writing, great performances by the two leads.
Excellent movie with very good characters. Both Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin were outstanding.
Well done. Very interesting and gives a deep perspective on mental health and its many challenges, even when love exists.7
Could've of been the "knockout" that the critical rave as was listed on the film poster itself, the film actually lost several star ratings simply due to easily one of the most obnoxious characters ever committed to film in the performance offered by Kiernan Culkin. Kudos to Jesse Eisenberg for taking on the lead acting writing and directing of the film, but as far the former category is concerned, he once again - as always - played Jesse Eisenberg. The film, considering the subject matter, was just far too full of missed opportunities.
Liked the layered messages
Well written. Well acted. Beautifully filmed.
A Real Pain is well written with great performances from the two leads but it’s just not a favorite of mine from this year’s films. I didn’t connect with this one as much but I can see how others are.
