A Vigilante Reviews
One of the most ridiculous, disappointing grand finale scenes of any movie I have seen.
Frustratingly slow paced. Not much vigilantism for a so called vigilante movie. Take out the close-ups of Olivia Wilde emoting and there's like 30 minutes of movie.
It's hard to understand why Olivia Wilde and/or the film didn't get any nominations (that I'm aware of). Female vengeance is a whole genre, of course; women assassins, hit-women, spies etc. But forget the Hollywood-ization with this one. It's raw and immediate. No CGI, just raw emotion and dramatic delivery shot in the Dogma style. It feels often much more like a documentary, it's so real. MEN: watch this one and you just..might..get..an..inkling into a woman's perspective on domestic violence. The support group sessions will rip you apart. Damned good movie.
As a survivor of domestic violence, I am always interested to see how this topic is handled in the media, and found this film tremendously honest, fresh, and emotionally gratifying. Olivia Wilde's performance was relatable, visceral, and intense, and her facial expressions and body language alone conveyed emotions where words alone would be insufficient. The repetition of the phrase, "The trucks just keep coming" ( pp ) however, was an evocative description of the relentless nature of continued abuse. Sadie's biggest triumph in the end, in my eyes, was not just overcoming her feelings of helplessness, but confronting her abuser with the truth of his actions, unrelenting to his manipulating tactics. Using her new-found inner strength to continue to help other DV victims demonstrated that she was on her own path to healing.
Good acting, but the movie is super slow and overly dramatic. I don’t recommend it. Surprised that it’s certified fresh by the critics
Too disjointed to follow it keeps you guessing where in time are we? And then guessing if you've reached for the remote in time
Olivia Wilde was amazing. Sad truth for so many women...amazing work that makes you feel what they feel.
It's a gem. Cannot fathom how the audience scores are so different from the critic scores. This is a 99.99% perfect film. The .01 bit is only because I personally struggle with how ---even when the camera cuts away every single time it should, and only vividly implies depictions of what is best not seen, it is a few times still a bit more graphic and intense than I personally want or need it to be to get the point. Points that I'm already quite clear on.
The acting is good and it is a good storyline but the movie was boring. It makes an effort to be a thriller but falls short. If someone like Joe Carnahan or David Ayer would have made it, it would have been a good action thriller. The storyline is as good as it gets but someone didn't know how to make a movie around it.
She's a great actress and I like slow-paced movies, so don't think I'm just hating when I say this was rather boring... Even though Olivia Wilde's portrayal of pain is quite impressive, we never really bond with the character. These well-acted moments of grief never really push the story forward, it's like the film was built from them as an excuse to showcase her acting with little attention to plot or emotion. Would I admire her as person? Absolutely. Was I either moved or entertained? Not really...
An excellent commentary on the evil of domestic violence.
Olivia Wilde is amazing in this movie. I don’t think I’ve seen a more powerful performance ever.
like other reviews , seeing is believing ! this film is as exciting as watching paint dry ! can not comprehend how critics gave this 90% Tomatometer score. I watched this film to the bitter end, in the hope of some grand finale. No chance. so bad you just have to see for yourself. when considering something to watch to save wasting time I look to rotten tomatoes for some guidance, got this wrong RT .
Amazing. Excellent. Satisfying. In this world of gross injustice we need more vigilantes to correct things.
Here is a film where the female hero is a BELIEVABLE combatant. Her antagonists are wife n child beaters, including female child beaters. The theme of this movie might be, Don't get sad, get even! This is not one of those pretty, sexy, comic book female James Bonds. This movie is real, and really gritty. (4.89)
A revenge flick at its best. Olivia Wilde kicks ass!
The only survivable aspect of the movie is the topic, that is original. Acting is ok, but characters are cry or shout, do the result trashes the skills. Narration is nothing special: couple of flashbacks in what is otherwise a pretty simple story. Filming is a painful disgrace: lot of long, still, shots everywhere all the time, including black screens!
The lead actresses is NOT a good hit man. This is a ridiculous and boring movie. I tried to get all the way through, but could not! Although she is pretty, that does not make a good movie or a good violent person being played in a movie, she is just too petite and maybe just not a good actress at all. I do NOT recommend this movie, no way no how!
