Ad Astra Reviews
Words cant describe how much i love this movie. I really wish it caught a better audience because most of the people writing reviews either didnt watch it or didnt experience it for the movie i see it as. Also a lot of people were really mad at the physics in this movie which i think is really really stupid
Ad Astra has a pervasive melancholic vibe, with the story centering on an astronaut’s quest to reunite with his long-lost father. Brad Pitt’s thoughtful yet sullen performance hammers home this feeling. Some scenes, however, truly shine—the opening fall from a space elevator, a rover chase on the moon, and an isolated outpost on Mars are astonishing. When Pitt's astronaut reaches his ultimate destination, the film successfully conveys the feeling of the viewer being at the edge of the solar system as well.
Learn physics 😭🙏
A Cult Classic Sci-Fi Flick. The cinematography is simply stunning. It's like if someone took 2001 A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner 2049 and mixed them together you'd get this visually. The direction is amazing too. The lighting in this is the highlight and is just so gorgous and evokes an other worldly feeling. The soundtrack is just as good. It's so immersive, unsettling, isolating, and so memorable. Everything else is really well done save for the pacing which is still good. Where this struggles is it ramps up too early with a very intriguing setup and just holds a very slow burn the entire way. I get that it does it to soak up the visuals and be immersed in the world like a fine wine and let the ideas take root. But once he stowaways onto the ship to Neptune it geuinely feels like ti drags for a good 15 minutes unnesccessrily and just wanders aimlessly a bit. This probably could've cut 15 minutes off the runtime and helped send it over. The ending as well is a bit anticlimatic also. This is a flick that is moreso about the journey than the actual destination and it knocks it out of the park for the most part int hat regard. Pitt is really good in this too but most of the supporting cast isn't as good but still does a good job. It's very much a Sci-Fi psychological thriller exploring the idea it's great to look beyond the stars but it's also important to not forget to look home also, more than a Star Wars type flick. Anyone who is a fan of Sci-Fi, the director, any actors in this, or even psychological type thrillers should check this out.
What is this garbage and why do people like it? There is nothing emotional about this at all. It’s more entertaining if you turn the sound off and close your eyes.
This film was brilliant, really think it deserves a better audience score. Perhaps people lacked patience and concentration when watching it 🤷♂️
Requires focus and patience as it powers up but it is well worth the ride once it flys. Psychologically compelling, visually astute and thought-provoking. For one, it captures enough of the emotional impact of extended space travel as to convince even those who love the idea of doing so to reconsider.
What a waste of so many talented actors. Even the best acting couldn't save this ship from sinking, crashing.... your choice of word in bombing in effort. The plot of father and son finally making a connection after years of being apart was lost among other things. The special effects were good but without a story and plot, this movie was lost in space.
the human journey told throughout the solar system
Nice visuals could be seen as boring
It was visually amazing. Somehow, though, through all the intense and thought-provoking action sequences, I was very bored. There was no musical score besides a basic orchestral droning, and the Brad Pitt voice overs were way too much. basically only had two characters, and one was only at the end of the movie. both characters were so monotonous, boring, and just shallow overall. I didn't feel for them at all. But visually, it almost had something going for it here.
Uninspiring and predictable. Visual effects were amazing. Attempts to wrestle with ideas about God in ways that show the writer has no relationship with Him and knows nothing about Him.
Great. Father insecurities understandable.
Wow... Astonishing! Probably one of the best films I've ever seen. Fantastic photography, excellent acting by Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones, and a captivating script. I felt immersed, exploring the space while the film masterfully guided me.
Nota: 6
So. Slow. So. Boring. So. Soulless. So. Random. So. Dull. So dramatic without feeling. Worst space movie I’ve ever seen. Go watch The Martian, Interstellar, or literally almost any other space movie and you will be more satisfied than you would be if you watched this.
A well shot and understated adaptation of the novel Heart of Darkness. Much like how Apocalypse Now is also an adaptation of that story, the protagonist ventures beyond man’s domain in the wilds of space. It’s a beautiful and meditative movie. It’s not an action flick, so don’t go in expecting that. I loved it but it’s maybe not for everyone; I’d strongly recommend for those that have read Heart of Darkness or are aware of the parallels between this and Apocalypse Now.
