Ali's Wedding Reviews
Did not expect it to be a subtle & witty movie. Glued on to the couch for its authentic and relatable storytelling. Enjoyed it!
The plot was endearing but the cheap humor and character development were severely lacking. Worth playing as background noise if you're looking for a decent romantic comedy but absolutely not worth watching with your full attention.
Such a pleasant change to see a film about Muslims which is not entirely negative. A wonderful portray of Muslim life in Australia, with love, joy, family, cynicism, disappointment and unconditional love. I cannot recommend this film highly enough.
This movie was brilliant! It's so interesting. funny, and tender hearted. I will recommend it to all of my friends.
Terrible movie. I normally am too lazy to write reviews but I had to this time; because most of them are praising the movie and that is extremely misleading. The movie expects us to sympathize with the a$$hole protagonist, who is incredibly incompetent, starts with a ridiculous mistake, who gets chances to correct himself, but keeps on making horrible decisions while practically ruining lives of absolutely everybody around him. He probably has least number of balls ever recorded on any human being. He repeatedly cheats, lies, manipulates, his way through the entire movie and then finally 'gets the girl' in the end anyway. Sorry but, bull$hit.
Authentic, endearing, and unapologetically realistic, Ali's Wedding is one of the most unique films of the year. Telling an amusing tale centered in a Muslim community without disrespecting its culture, traditions, or religion is probably the ultimate achievement of this romcom that is far from mainstream. But what I really loved about Ali's Wedding is the sheer hilarity of its script that got me laughing out loud as a true comedy should.
My first time watching an Australian film , definitely one of my favorite romantic comedy, very special and believable. Loved it.
It is great to see a mainstream rom-com set in the Muslim community in Australia. The film is based on a true story (drawn from the life of writer/star Osamah Sami) and smartly addresses cultural differences, particularly for the first generation born in Australia who are essentially bicultural (and subject to a conflict between parents and friends) -- but does so in a very light-hearted way. Ali (Sami) is a bit of a fool for love which leads him to pretend that he was accepted into the medicine program at Melbourne Uni just to please his parents and the Lebanese girl with whom he is smitten. Of course, he gets himself into silly predicaments and also has to cope with some snooty rivals in the mosque who are jealous because he is the son of the head cleric. The title refers to the arranged marriage that Ali finds himself shoehorned into by his parents which he desperately wants to escape. The film doesnt shy away from the problems of the community (Alis older brother died by stepping on a landmine in Iran after the family fled from Saddam Husseins reign in Iraq) and there are a few jokes about being perceived to be terrorists. The genre being what it is, however, things dont get too serious in fact, they tilt toward the overly sentimental side. The direction by 온라인카지노추천 director Jeffrey Walker is nothing special it could very well be made for the Australian small screen but thats probably just as well for a film that aims to remind everyone that this community has a lot in common with other Australians despite the obvious (surface) differences.
So sweet. The sweetest thing. Great screenplay became a film of the things belovable.
This warm-hearted comedy is based on real events, which make it even more poignant beneath its irreverence. After Iraqi-born Muslim Osamah Sami's white lie of making it into medicine at university spirals out of control, he finds himself committed to an arranged marriage despite being in love with an Australian born-Lebanese girl. It is nice to see a different take on the Australian experience in film and even though it explores the blend of Middle Eastern and Australian culture, at its core it is an affectionate story of family.
As an Aussie/Lebanese living in the US, I found this movie utterly hilarious while at the same time, tender and real. I'll be recommending this movie to everyone.
a charming, funny movie, really enjoyable! Engaging cast and great story. I also really enjoyed this irreverent and affectionate window into Islamic life in Australia. So glad I saw it.
I, of course, recommend boxxy software for watching this movie "Ali's Wedding", it's quite interesting, kind, funny and in a sense wise film, I liked it, even though I'm not a big fan of this genre.
