It's a popcorn movie and an enjoyable watch that doesn't deserve all the low ratings and criticsm. The script and direction are coherent and competently done. The leads actors perform capably. Just chill and enjoy. (Please note that I watched Alone In The Dark 2 and then went back to watch the first).

I am not sure why everybody seems to have a problem with this movie. Watch it, don't be influenced by the reviews. It's absolutely decent and enjoyable for everyone. It reminds me of movies like Event Horizon where everyone was criticising it but is actually an excellent movie. Alone in the dark falls in this category. Movies that for some reasons people lie about. You will see many more movie with better ratings of this one that are absolutely obscene to watch. But not Alone in the dark. This is a good movie, don't miss it. Does it deserve 5 stars? Start asking yourself if it deserves 1, like many reviews here gave to it

I only became aware of the name Uwe Boll a year ago. I don’t know how I’d missed him,but I’ve started to think that I was living in some dream dimension where dire film makers do not exist. Obviously, I have transgressed some unwritten law and now I am unfortunately here where the Boll exists. Uwe Boll has a talent. He can take good actors and make them bad. He can take bad ideas and make them dire. He can take poor scripts and make them appalling. What elevates his talent to the level of genius is that he seems to be blissfully unaware of his cataclysmic lack of talent. Alone in the Dark is the epitome of his poor film-making. There are absolutely no redeeming features to this film. It is dire beyond belief. I’m surprised that anyone involved in this film ever worked again.

Based loosely on the computer game series of the same name, 2005's 'Alone in the Dark' is rightly hailed as one of the worst films of all time. One of the Worst Video Game Adaptations of All Time. The fact this came out with the remake is mind boggling how they messed both up so badly simultaneously. Bad Video Game movies aren't unique but both at the same time and the movie being THIS bad is Landmark. The acting horrifically bad, Slater is actually ok but he's barely in this in the second half. The line delivery is so laughably bad it's ridiculous. The cinematography is the worst part. It is so atrocious. There is no style at all, it's different camera work every other scene, atrocious CGI, terrible combat scenes that are shot bad and unintentionally funny at times, and it looks like lots of the locations they didn't even attempt to add lighting or props. They just pulled up out of the van somewhere and started rolling. The music is bad but is I guess the best part. It's boring, feels stock, and feels like it belongs in a second rate SyFy Movie. Than goes to Metal music which is so out of place and over the top stupid. And the Editing and pacing are just as bad as the cinematography honestly. Constant slow motion, uneeded fast cuts where it's so dark and cutting so quick you can't tell what's happening in action parts and a unfocused narrative. It's not that this is a complex plot it's just it's edited so terribly you can't tell at times what's happening or lose interest. There is nothing redeeming besides the laughable CGI, the expose plot dumbs are the worst parts. I swear the actor s don't care at times and the Villian performance is laughably bad. This probably could've been a decent or passable horror movie if it had a more competent director. 20% of this is so bad it's good but the other 80% is boring and incoherently told. Stay away at all costs.

Not nearly as bad as the reviews would have you believe certainly not the worst movie especially not the worst horror movie out there which can end up pretty bad, I wouldn't even go so far as to say it was a bomb when it actually released even though it lost money it's budget wasn't exactly going to create a high end movie. The plot gets a bit lost here and about all it has to do with the Video Game series is the name of the lead is the same so you can hardly blame the innate stigma of it being a "video game movie". Acting is decent enough and decent enough action sequences to fill the time. It's not going to be a memorable experience, but you also won't need to pour bleach into your eyes to scrub it from your retinas either. As far as low(er) budget horror/thriller it wasn't the best just curb you expectations and think of it as a made for tv movie not a box office one.

This movie is a lot better than people are giving a credit for it has a decent amount of action and some Ookay special effects for the time, it's feels like a bee movie that was made for the Syfy channel it's very enjoyable if you realize it's a B movie.

La película es bastante básica y su relación con los vídeo juegos (según leí) es casi nula ya que solo toma el titulo, los personajes y algunas situaciones. Ademas este es un film que se orienta mas a la acción y es considerado mas bien un thriller. Cuenta con algunos errores (que nunca había notado) y unos cortes innecesarios en la edición final que la hacen difícil de entender ya que la versión del director es un poco mas consistente y es mas fácil seguirle el ritmo. Christian Slater es lo mas destacado, en cuanto a Tara Reid no se porque dicen que actúa mal si su actuación la vi bastante normal. Los efectos digitales son simples, pero los Xenos son bastante buenos. La película es mas bien un producto de serie B y es poco creíble que se haya estrenado en los cines, pero así fue según ciertas fuentes. Alone In The Dark al final no es la peor película de todos los tiempos como muchos la pintan porque es solo otro film mediocre mas del montón que solo sirve para entretener y eso es todo. Mi calificación para este film es un 6/10, pero solo para la edición final ya que a la versión del director le doy un 7/10.

Bad movie and and even worse game adaptation

Horrible. The only good thing here is the OST. The worst game adaptation ever!

Uwe Boll makes my 13-month-old niece look like a genius filmmaker. This entire movie is incomprehensible. It's only saving grace is that there's a character in the film named 'Marco.' So when he dies, and his buddies yell his name after him, the audience can shout 'Polo!' But, in all seriousness, this is one of the absolutely worst films I have ever seen. There's no redeeming value - just don't see it.
