Loved it. Definitely punches above its weight. More of a drama/character study than an action movie. Almost didn't watch it cause of the poster on Hulu, but then I googled it and thought it sounded interesting. Tom Pelphrey and Idina Menzel were excellent, and Jacki Weaver's always good. Reccomend!

Esse filme é perfeito quando narra a história de Jason. Pontos máximos desse filme é a liberdade criativa do escritor e a fotografia. Com exceção, odiei a romantização que o filme fez transparecer de um "maniaco" sociopata.

Pelphrey holds the screen with a natural and realistic range of manic boyish energy, seductive charm, and quietly hateful selfishness. Hard to see Phillipe bringing much to his part; he seems to walk through it without conviction. The rest of the supporting cast are a great ensemble surrounding 'Jason' and suffering the consequences that he tries desperately to avoid himself. The story is realistic, because true, story of a lover who leveraged his gift for convincing bullshit until he got in over his head. The title is a bit misleading since his many crimes were petty or short term high dollar scams, until his desperation leads him to commit the one murder, cold-blooded to be sure, of his criminal career, and the reason he made the FBI's top ten most wanted list. No master-mind, just great at fooling people and at self-preservation at the expense of others. It is Pelphrey's performance that makes this story a rewarding movie to watch.

Too much Tom Pelphrey acting NUTS. Could only watch a few minutes at a time because of his character. Should have been edited way down.

I was more than half way into the movie and thought to myself, all this guy has done is stolen a credit card and lied to a couple of people. I've seen more interesting stories in 20 minutes of an American Greed episode. The interviews by Ryan Phillipe as the FBI agent fall completely flat and while I realize the director is not following a linear timeline the back and forth from past to present is not done well . Of course what this guy does in the end is horrible but this movie does a terrible job conveying him as guy at top of the Americas Most Wanted list, just seems like a run of the mill douche bag who was dumb enough to shoot someone

A decent true crime drama. There's definitely some cheesiness to the production and all but overall a fairly entertaining movie.

It's no masterpiece, sure, but it's a good little film and has a brilliant central performance. It would have been nice to have understood more about the motives and reasons behind this guy's actions. Other than that, happy customer.

American Murderer is one of the best films I have seen in awhile. Tom Pelphrey did a phenomenal job portraying Jason Derek Brown, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Idina Menzel was amazing as Melanie, it was very exciting to see her in a role like this as it is very different from her usual casting. She knocked it out of the park. The directing, cinematography and film score is incredible, I can't wait to watch it again!

I was engaged through the whole movie. Tom Pelphrey was excellent as a psychopath unraveling before our eyes.

I saw this last night...and it was absolutely one of the best filmic surprises of the year for me! 🙂 Not only is it probably one of the most casually-grim character study films you'll ever watch (in a way that even supersedes movies like "Joker" and "Pearl" because it's based on a true story, and it's all deeply, indelibly grounded in reality), but it's also an amazingly-confident experiment in sprawling non-linear storytelling, attempting a timeline that not even Stephen Gaghan would dare, lol. In a lot of ways, it's like what would happen if Harmony Korine made a modern-day American spin on "La Dolce Vita"...and I'm so, so psyched that Matthew Gentile was able to achieve ALL of this for his very first full-length film with nothing but hard work and lots of persistence! 🙂 Deeply, deeply-inspirational stuff...

Really loved this movie! Tom Pelphrey was captivating as Jason Derek Brown. What an all start cast that was put together!!
