American Woman Reviews

Oct 14, 2024

If you like a realistic depressing story of a women dealing with her missing daughter, raising her grandson alone, having abusive relationships then this will be an unforgettable experience watch or you.

So boring and really went nowhere. The performances were decent. The story gets established with the daughter going missing pretty early on, and that was about as interesting as it got.

Do not waste your time. This is just the sad tale of a multi generational dysfunctional family. It was well acted, and painted a realistic picture of the contrast between the love between family members, and the way we all get on each other's nerves. But there is no payoff, no triumph, no redemption. If you want to be depressed then tune in, otherwise cut yourself with a piece of broken glass. It will be less painful than watching this.

Started watching this because I just couldn’t find any good movies to watch on a rainy day off and found this one and it did not disappoint. Very well written well acted movie. 🫶🏻

I found the characters off-putting, vulgar, low lives. Maybe it got better later but after this promiscuous mom uses the supercharged curse Jesus F----g Ch, I had it. Why not use Yahwe fucking Moses? Or Allah fucking Mohammad? Sick!

It's solid. Also available for free on Tubi!

The performances are the key ingredient here. Even when the movie is meandering Miller, Hendricks, and the rest of the cast carry this thing. Some of those final scenes are gut wrenching.

This movie might not be for everyone, but I found it meditative, full of rage and love and loss, but I loved it. Sienna Miller is absolutely phenomenal, and really give the film depth and wonder - not always likeable but I cared for her and her close family. I'd watch it again, just to see her performance again, but I really loved this movie.

I am a 43-year-old grown man and I don't know what the hell happened to me watching this movie, but I cried more than once at some of the scenes. I think that was the performance of a lifetime for Sienna Miller. I've never watched a performance by an actress that I believed and felt more than this. This movie was so incredibly well-made, and well acted, the sister and brother in law also, jfc so damn good all of them. Miller's portrayal and her ability to take that character's arc and handle it such an honest and raw way it felt brutal at times and also beautiful at others, just so perfectly done and I hate that I feel like I'm not being articulate enough to do it justice and describing it, nothing she did seemed over or under acted, when I say this was an absolute perfect performance I meant it.

I watched American Woman last night on Netflix. This is one movie where I would like to see the gender of the people leaving the review. American Woman is too real, to gritty, for most non women to accept.

Piercing drama with stellar cast. Miller's best performance by far.

While the acting performance by Miller is phenomenal...almost everything else about the movie could not be more of a waste. The protagonist that Miller plays is not simply 'flawed,' she is as unlikeable as anyone can be, but the film doesn't even seem to realize that. What is more, almost none of the plot is actually focused on the main mystery that the story advertises, in fact it is hardly touched at all. Instead, almost the entirety of the runtime is focused on screaming matches between a family. Other than the acting, just nothing much of value in this film, nothing to really enjoy or connect with.

This is a somewhat sobering drama film that centres on a missing sibling. It depicts domestic violence and features some good performances. It has a surprisingly subtle feel about it. Some may say its a bit slow pace wise but I thought it wasn't bad, as the viewer gets slow insights into the family dynamic, which keep us interested to keep watching and see what we learn next. Its one of those films which might have you guessing what is next to come, the next twist etc. A good film, worth a watch, yes I'd recommend it.

A missing daughter, and a mother's mission to find her. The story for me is not only about the mother's grief over the loss and unknown whereabouts of her daughter, but the mother's own struggle to grow as a human. Involved in mishap relationships that involve domestic violence and alcohol use, Sienna Miller really conveys a relatable person with unresolved trauma's. A mother who gave birth at a young age who subsequently becomes caregiver to her grandson, this is a sad story however has resolution at the end as you see the character's growth and ultimate relief when she finally receives closure.

A real hidden gem of a movie. I was not a big Sienna Miller fan but she is superb in this movie. I know Hollywood awards are political and motivated by money and all but how she was not nominated for a best acting award is an injustice, plain and simple. You begin to feel for her character as though she is real the acting is so good. Unlike 98% of the movies I have seen of late, I will remember this one for a while.

A waste of the talent of the actors. It's a sad story. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it. It had reasonable production quality and storytelling. I guess I just didn't like the story.

Waste of time. Boring. Pointless. Nothing happens.

Not perfect but still an absorbing two hours well spent. Subtle, authentic and moving. Wonderful performances by the the entire cast.
