An American Pickle Reviews
I thought it was the best movie I have seen in a while! It was the perfect picture of what time has has changed. Religion and family have been slowly moved out of the picture and the consequences that come from it. Also how much peace comes back into our lives when we do pick back up the mantle of religious beliefs and bringing them back to a family setting. I have to say again how much I love this movie the more I think of it. A comedy was the best way to bring to life how our society has grown over time.
seth rogen talks to himself with a terrible accent funny, memorable, cute. has the feeling of a movie made in the 80s.
Surprisingly not stupid! Genuinely liked the movie, I wish there was a stronger ending. Quirky humor, would be great for a highschool history class.
I think Seth Rogan did an awesome job with what he was given. He fits the character/s well and, in my opinion, carried this film as far as it could go!
Quirky and easy to watch.
Amusing premise, ending was rushed but pleasant resolution.
It was so amazing, honestly number 1 movie ever.
Very common Seth Rogen failure. He needs to stick to making ash trays his acting career is a trainwreck.
What? Was? That? I mean... Serious?
"An American Pickle" is a mixed bag of a movie, with moments of humor and heart that are weighed down by a sluggish pace and a predictable plot. The concept of a 1920s immigrant preserved in pickle juice for 100 years and waking up in modern-day Brooklyn is a creative one, but the execution falls short. The film is carried by the lead performance of Seth Rogen, who shines in both his roles as the old-fashioned Herschel and his hipster grandson Ben. However, the jokes are hit or miss, and the story ultimately fails to fully capitalize on its interesting premise. "American Pickle" is an average film that will provide a few laughs, but won't leave a lasting impression.
This movie reminded me of "Multiplicity" because of how one actor plays multiple roles. In "Multiplicity", Michael Keaton plays three characters. Both films pull off this trick very convincingly. Both films are also comedies. I'm sure there must be at least a few other films that use the multiple-character trick, going back to the earliest days of film-making. I enjoyed "An American Pickle," but it was not as funny as "Multiplicity" or as funny as some of Rogen's other work. Still, it was pleasant and interesting throughout. There seemed to be a few plot holes where you have to suspend your disbelief. I feel like maybe the plot could have been improved, perhaps with a little less focus on the Rogen characters, and a few other interesting characters or a love interest thrown into the mix. I think some of the more critical reviews arise because people are expecting one kind of movie -- zany slapstick maybe -- but they are getting something that is not so zany, and something that is a lot more thoughtful than some of Rogen's other work. It may even be that some of the negativity has to do with anti-Jewish sentiment, though I don't know why anyone who harbors anti-Jewish sentiment would watch a Seth Rogen movie -- especially this Seth Rogen movie.
What a mess of a movie , bad plot , not good dialog , why am i not suprised the critics liked it.( so out of touch ).
An actually very sweet time-travel drollery ruminating on the generational conflict and familial honour of the Jewish identity when an old-world immigrant worker meets his millennial great grandson (a whimsical dual performance from Seth Rogen) and vying each other to make it big in the Land of Opportunity.
Its a funny show worth watching once. It's fun to see Seth Rogan play multiple characters and the plot is a comedic portrayal of how times have changed for the worse.
Seth fan, genuinely loved it.
Dreadful. If it is meant to be a comedy then very little beyond the first couple of minutes that is funny. The set up of someone displaced in time has been done so much better and this does little beyond nod in the direction that Russian Jewish values and thoughts are probably out of place in 21st century new York. That realisation could be really funny. Here is just isnt - no comedy set up no punch lines. Very flat. My advice is spend your time watching any Woody Allen film
I thought Rogen did a good job here. The premise is quite bizarre, but it's amusing and charming for its entire runtime. It's worth seeing at least once.
This film had so much potential. Seth Rogen excelled in the dual roles, but the story feels like something written over a couple of beers. Good raw materials, but they used the wrong brine.
