The Andromeda Strain Reviews
Over 50 years later, The Andromeda Strain remains one of the best films in the killer virus genre in terms of accuracy and attention to detail.

It remains well worth watching, but the magical 'classic' status afforded to Wise's other famous films is not quite earned.

It is, in fact, quite a proficient example of the science fiction genre, though I can't help thinking that 130 minutes is too long for anything non-Kubrick.

A real spellbinder.

'70s book-based sci-fi classic has violence, peril.

It all goes a bit sci-fi bonkers towards the end, with a high-tension countdown and green lasers blasting scientists who attempt to override a doomsday button. But, well, it is a movie after all. And an underrated classic.

With an incredible cast and a fine direction, The Andromeda Strain can serve up some great and tense discourse. [Full Review in Spanish]

Though it's essentially the godfather of the outbreak disaster genre, The Andromeda Strain is a slow sci-fi procedural that hasn't aged well.

There's much to admire.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jun 15, 2019
the story is a fiction, but a fiction told with one eye on a realistic style of filmmaking (let's call it 'pathogen procedural'), and the other eye on the contemporary realities of both space travel and the Cold War...

Does a great job of bottling up and then slowly releasing tension.

Despite its trappings, the plot employs nothing but the conventional weaponry of the grade-B thriller.

Gidding's script prioritises the scientific process over any kind of drama or character, and the bulk of the movie which details this process can seriously plod.

Robert Wise's version of Chrihton's popular novel is a decent (but no more) film, with some good art design.

Uma fico-cientfica inteligente, para adultos, que usa a "fico" como trampolim para sua fascinante "cincia". E a direo de arte um espetculo parte, mesmo que datada.

Robert Wise brings his Academy Award-winning sobriety and meticulousness to a pulp tale that cries out for the slapdash vigor of a Roger Corman.

An intriguing, suspenseful story is somewhat hampered by a dull cast. The last sequence will have you on the edge of your seat.
