Animal Kingdom Reviews
Felt so tense throughout the film. Well executed family crime drama with complex characters.
Ben Mendelssohn's character is an absolute monster about as evil and dark as you can get. Definitely not a feel good film. Some superb acting all round. A very unnerving score adds to the darkness. Definitely worth a watch
It was an engaging film with good acting and storyline. It's definitely worth the watch.
Very promesing start, but jumps of the rails half way done and into a mess.
Really good movie with great actors. Held up my interest through out.
it feels too long but its good its supposed to be deep in the modern-gangster world of Australia theres so much corruption not just in the business but in the family-aspect of it all its a pretty good script too all the actors act like real people 20-30 min could have been shaved off but this is still good enough
One of my favorite movies!
Great, faultless filmmaking and acting.
Awesome cast, worth watching!
Amazing movie, I thought it would be slow and dark but it is very watchable and keeps you interested. The show does not do it justice.
Great movie, I was worried it would be slow and dark but it is captivating, intriguing and has deep character studies. Watch this before the show.
Loosely based on one of Australia's most infamous crime families, this chilling crime drama is one of 2010's best movies. From the screenplay, to the performances, this movie is one of the best Australian movies in some time.
A great series but the last season was crap and that's being kind 🙄😢. A total waste of everyone's time including the actors
The chilling and memorable opening scene of Animal Kingdom effectively sets the stage for the drama to follow. After his mother dies of a heroin overdose, seventeen-year-old Joshua (James Frecheville) is forced to live with his extended family, including his manipulative grandmother (Jacki Weaver) and his uncles, all of whom are involved in organized crime. Ben Mendelsohn is riveting as Pope, the dangerous leader of the gang who'll stop at nothing to protect his own interests and freedom. It's a highly stylized crime film, effective on every level, laden with standout performances and countless memorable scenes, clearly one of the most outstanding crime thrillers in recent memory.
The issue I had with this movie is that it was all very local (some of the locations throughout. They're engaged in drug trading, yet all of those run-ins are far from the viewers eye. It felt hard for me to really believe the plot as well as the cast because of this. Nowhere close to films like Trainspotting or Requiem for a Dream, yet it does scratch the surface of the paranoia and issues with the law..
Fans of the television show will likely enjoy this. People who've never watched the television series, like myself, might want to check it out after viewing this. Simply, it doesn't have any of the elements that have developed into pet peeves of mine over the last decade or two.
This is a good movie based on the events surrounding the Pettingill clan in the late 80s to mid 90s. However the events of the movie pale in comparison to the reality of what happened. Look up the Wikipedia page for Kath Pettingill (aka Granny Evil) who Smurf was based on and Dennis Allen (aka Mr Death) and Viktor Pierce (half brothers and Kath's sons) whose actions were diluted and combined to give the character of Pope. If you liked the movie check out the true story, it's sooo much worse
Love Ellen Barkin! Just ruined the last part that she have to die. She's the reason I kept watching it! Love the boys. But theres no attention to Animal kingdom w/o Barkin.
