Annabelle: Creation Reviews
Sure, it will still feel very familiar, but I appreciated the practical effects over digital, the keen eye for tension-building, and the patient buildup.

It stops being fun and starts dwelling on pain.

While defusing laughter often accompanies this sort of material, it's best employed when we're not laughing at the film.

While Annabelle: Creation is not on the level of James Wans The Conjuring, the film is still able to stand on its own as a chilling film that not only cements David F. Sandberg as one of horrors best directors today.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Feb 18, 2022
Good characters, a different viewpoint on the scares, excellent direction, and some nice nods for fans of the series.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 29, 2021
It's perhaps one of the most exciting connective twists I've seen in a horror film.

A surprisingly eerie sequel that's better than its predecessor.

Sandberg has effectively built a thrill ride, but he didn't build the right kind, as its thrills amount to little more than flaccid giggle-inducers. Maybe an immobile doll isn't the right vehicle for frights.

Annabelle: Creation, a prequel to the prequel, is actually a solid horror joint.
| Original Score: B- | Jul 1, 2020
It's an effective horror film, but forgettable as it does not stick with the viewer once the lights come back on.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Apr 17, 2020
While not as elegant as Wan's entries in the universe, the scares here are a chillingly effective mix of tone and gimmick, which is really all anyone could ask.

I'm not saying it is the year's best in the genre -I'm still holding out for IT- but Creation will maintain your adoration for The Conjuring series.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Oct 10, 2019
Avoid at all costs unless you're a Conjuring Universe completist for whatever reason.
| Original Score: 2/10 | Oct 4, 2019
An acceptable horror entertainment that knows how to go from "minus" to "plus" without having completely lost the viewer before the arrival of the last act. [Full Review in Spanish]

Its characters are not as boring as the previous ones, and the fact that one of the girls has trouble walking generates a series of very stimulating stress situations. [Full Review in Spanish]

The movie manages to be steadily increasingly intense without ever being slow-moving, and the finale is nail-biting, nerve-wrecking, and gripping.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | May 4, 2019
One of the better horror movies that I've seen in a while.

The sources of the scares are all over the place but come fast-and-furious-enough to keep us guessing; you're sure to jump more than once as you search the shadows for movement.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Apr 16, 2019
In The Conjuring universe, Annabelle: Creation is the weakest link riding on the success of its previous films. It certainly answers the demon doll's origin story, but it does so with unnecessary froth.

Annabelle Creation has given me new hope that future spin off films in this franchise have the potential to be good.
