The most stupid film from the rest of 5 years

Anora is a cinematic triumph—raw, honest, and emotionally profound. Sean Baker delivers a modern fairy tale that cuts deep, anchored by Mikey Madison’s extraordinary performance. Her portrayal of Ani is intense, human, and unforgettable. With vibrant cinematography, rich character work, and a bold heart, Anora isn’t just a film—it’s an experience. A fearless, standout piece of 2024 cinema. Oscar-worthy and utterly unforgettable.

Although it is a sad story, her acting is spot on and she deserved the oscar. I must admit this caught me completely off guard. I thought this was going to be a modern updated, edgier version of Pretty Woman from the trailers. Boy was I wrong! Not so cutesy.

Pornographic garbage with no redeeming features. There are no words for this trash. Rated X. You used to have to go to a special theatre to see such an X rated pornographic film, now it's getting Academy Awards. The Irony of Harvey Weinstein, when an "actress" like this, with zero talent, wins the Best Actress award over someone such as Demi Moore, who should have won. I have lost any respect for The Academy. I hate everyone who helped make this film, and waste my time. Every minute was stressful to watch, outside the pornogrpahy, it was a stressful journey of fighting, yelling, non-stop noise. Breaking things, running around, screaming pointlessly. Definitely nothing enjoyable about this film. Waste of my evening. TRASH at its trashiest. Only one actor with any talent, Igor, everyone else was ridiculous, especially the actress who could say one word "mother-fkr" No acting skills whatsoever, just a screaming ranting woman, angry at her own stupidity. How did she win any accolades for this horrid lack of a performance. Boo!

The modern Pretty Woman with more bling-bling, drugs and perversions yet with not happy end. It feels watching a soft porno with comedy moments.

I don't understand why this film, won so many Oscars, a film that in 2 years, no one will even remember, the film is not bad, but it is not incredible.

This movie was good, very entertaining and held my attention until the end. I did not think it was best movie material though. The lead actress, Mikey Madison, was phenomenal in her role.

The first half hour or so I thought was kind of routine. I almost stopped watching it, but I pressed on. The farther along I got, I began to become involved in Ani's life and situation. In a sense I could relate to the disbelief she must have felt as to what was happening to her. In the end we see the effect of the overwhelming intensity of the past 48 hours. Ani breaks down. I thought this was both touching and very real. Great performance by Mikey Madison. I also liked the performance by Karren Karagulin as Toros

Anora is this year's Oscar picks. I don't understand. I am getting quite tired of the exploited/put-upon woman films being lauded as the story of the year. Monster's Ball was bad enough, why do we need another similar tale added to the cultural zeitgeist?? I thought Anora was incredibly sad, and long. The ending in particular, was like a gut punch, and did not even tie up the narrative very well. I found it cheap, bawdy and exploitative. Not recommended.

This is exactly how far Hollywood has descended into hell. What a train wreck. When the characters are so devoid of any sympathy or human emotion other than sexual, you get this worthless dribble of a film, which uses sex to define its protagonist and debases all women everywhere as cheap whores who only care about money. WOW. What that says about todays culture is depressing.

Wannabe pretty women premise with trash unlikable characters, a lot of soft core porn scenes. How movies like this win anything is wild

That movie was awful and I have no idea who flooded the ballot box for this to win. There was not a single chuckle for what some call a comedy, and the characters are so awful that you really don’t care what happens to them. I’m stunned that someone watched this trash and thought it was a good movie.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. A horrible trashy film with unlikeable characters.

Apr 18, 2025

I did not find this funny or engaging. Certainly not entertaining. Dumb and violent. I want my two hours back. Not fun.

I enjoy watching this movie, not the best but was nice to watch

Good but not great, bar definitely lower for Best Picture these days. Entertaining and tedious with one of the most irritating characters I've endured in a long time. I didn't buy that Ani is so street smart yet believes Vanya, a spoiled rag doll son of a Russian oligarch, would be remotely dependable or sincere. It is worth a watch and Mikey Madison gives a pretty good performance with a weak script.

For the entirety of the film, Anora is a formidable force. She manages to push back against henchmen sent to annul her marriage. Stand up against the mother of her husband. And fought a rival stripper who wished to steal him. However, this was obviously all for naught. Because Vanya, the rich boy who whisked her away from the strip club and married her, was a spoiled brat who cannot disobey his mother. The lavish montage of their fairy tale relationship transforms back into a dragging sequence in the lens of ordinary folk. The atmosphere itself is a painful contrast of two drastically different lifestyles. Mikey Madison has played expressively bratty and naïve characters. But Anora is an entirely different beast. She guides the narrative from dancing in non-existent clothing, to youthful romance, to slapstick and ever hinting tragedy. She can also pack a punch, solidifying Anora as a woman who refuses to back down. Yet in the final moments, when a character offered genuine human kindness to her, she was moved. This is possibly the first time Anora was offered compassion outside her services, and she was likely confused on how to reciprocate. When the first thing she can think of as gratitude was to offer her body – she became devastated, broke down and cried. Additionally overwhelmed by the fact that this entire time, she never gave herself a chance to be vulnerable, and it all cascaded like a waterfall. Director Sean Baker and Madison are smart to decline further elaboration on this scene in interviews, as it will be the crux of every commentary about the film for good reason. We were honestly surprised when Anora won best picture at the Oscars. But in retrospect, most can pinpoint the exact moment it became an elevated experience. The class commentary hiding behind an adult romcom is a nice touch.

Mikey Madison puts on a good show and is probably deserving of her Oscar based solely on all the sexploitation she endured from her director. But five Oscars? Based on a story that evokes nothing in the form of humor (billed as a comedy) or romance (billed as a Cinderella story)? It's not even agitating enough to discuss because the film has no heart and soul. It has a greedy girl who sees her escape out of the "business" and runs into a brick wall. She gets what she deserves and cries at the end. I was moved to my best BM of the week. If this is inspiration, I'm not buying into it. Hopefully, the inspired are the ones who just want to get out of the prostitution business and make good lives for themselves. My guess is, however, the 17- and 18-year-olds of this world will see Anora as an advertisement for selling their bodies with hopes of luring a drunken, stupid Nepo-dude into faux matrimony.

Anora was much better and funnier than anticipated. The four of them looking for vanya was a great time and good comedy. They had a good dynamic and their escapades could've taken up more of the film without me complaining. I think everyone wanted this movie to be something else but I ended up actually liking it way more. The trailers made this seem like something I'd hate but it was funny and I could appreciate it. It dragged on for longer than necessary though. The bodyguards were funny and her dynamic with the other dancers in the club was good to watch. I'd recommend to some people but definitely not all.
