Qualquer semelhança com Deus, Pátria e Família não é mera coincidência… O filme é tão real e tão absurdo, estou catatônica com o desfecho. Estava a pensar quando irá começar o terror, uma introdução forte, mas alongada, e quando nos demos conta o terror é mesmo a escravidão vivida, sem spoiler, mas o horror desse momento pavoroso vivido pela maioria dos países, é uma eterna macula na sua áurea, ainda hoje, e dói na alma… Uma produção caprichosa, se não funciona como terror, o faz em drama…

Great movie! It kept me at the edge of my seat! From beginning to end it kept my attention & had me saying Veronica better get away at the end! Loved it!

Bad costumes, bad acting, bad script. It was a struggle to get through this and it is a mistake I will not be making again. Very poor effort.

Sceneggiatura sicuramente originale e coraggiosa, spezzata in diverse parti ben distinte tra di loro ma con qualche difficoltà per lo spettatore, soprattutto nella prima parte, a seguirne la linea temporale. Una volta compresa la vera trama, quando ci si potrebbe finalmente concentrare sul suo andamento, vengono alla luce diverse forzature e punti deboli che rendono parecchio artificiosa la sceneggiatura. Forse concedere più tempo ai villain sarebbe stata una buona idea, magari spiegando come si è arrivati ad una situazione talmente peculiare da essere poco credibile proprio perchè le ragioni restano oscure. Premiata l'idea, meno lo svolgimento.

Poorly directed and a story that rambles. We get it. The South sucks and racists live on. You need more than that to make a good movie.

A cartoon like depiction of a national tragedy in the vein of "The Village" or "Inglorius Bastards". Agian bad white people vs good black people. There is a cringy early scene where the BFF of the main character is dressing down a man, only seen in profile from the waist up, in what looked like a reverse descrimatory way. Again whites subdue black people for their own pleasure as in "Them" in a strange Stepford Wives like twist. Ofcourse in the Woke worldview only the Southern U.S. had slaves...like not infact the whole world past and present. Please stop making movies that not only do not present the truth but cause even more devision and ranker. A Afrocentric presentation that some simpletons might believe is true. Hopefully this movie will be relegated to the dust bin of history. Poor movie.

The big twist is majorly stupid

3 & 1/4 stars to this thriller about Neo-racists. The pieces finally begin to fit when modern technology appears despite the African-Americans being held in slavery. It ends well for society.

A massive waste of time. Imagine Django but it's not funny, intelligent, scary, or fun to watch. This is written like some kind of black against white revenge porn without any historical accuracy or intelligent point to make. I watched for free while getting my tire changed, you're a clown if you pay to watch this haha

Overall, while Antebellum has stunning visuals, an eerie soundtrack and a reliable performance by Janelle Monae, this film is somewhat disappointing to see. As a plot, it is filled with dull moments, and while it delivers a twist reveal, this feels more of a weak trick thanks to the director's attempt to be creative, which I can somewhat appreciate. The trailer and the poster will hint that this film is a new horror style, but surprise! It's not. Antebellum is a drama that carries minor elements of thrills and is bound to please some audiences.

I see what it was trying to do but tried too hard. Eye roll worthy. Don't copy cat racism and project it. Just be original and genuine.

The first two-thirds were a totally disjointed, senseless mess. The last third was very underutilized as I felt it was all that was needed, and things should have grown and been elaborated on from what was in the final third.

Movies are supposed to draw you in and suspend your belief that it isn't real. The first part was very disturbing mistreatment. Once the prequel segment starts you think she was dreaming, and then she gets kidnapped and you realize its all a farce? At that point , the movie just becomes silly. Makes no sense that these people were all kidnapped and then all the sudden just accept their fates. In reality? It would have been a fight to the death immediately. These people would not have been so subservient. I had to fast forward on this one. Movies that I have to do this with? IMO. Suck.

This film gets disturbing and then entertaining enough in it's execution, but then it delivers a bit less. The movie is a sort of baffling tale that will have you guessing and thinking and the ending seems to work well enough. 3 and a half out of 5.

This movie was powerful! Especially towards the end when she was able to get her fight back! The scene where she carried the torch was pure inspiration!

Grim, race-centered horror tale that tries to be another "Get Out" or "Us" (same producer), but falls way short. Ambitious, but less than the sum of its parts.

There’s nothing that hurts more than the truth.

I know that the cinema world is oversaturated with movies that depict slavery and the antebellum era. With this understanding I can see why Bush and Renz wanted their film to be separate from the rest (hence the plot twist). However, the way it was executed was quite poor. At first it was pretty confusing to see where they were going with the plot, and when the film switched back to modern times I found myself to be less engaged with the movie. In the end I found the ending to be a little comical, because it was so far fetched. I get the director and producers were trying to be different by producing a psychological thriller similar to "Get Out"; but in this instance it just didn't work. I thought the acting was pretty good and I enjoyed Janelle's performance. I also appreciated Gabourey Sidbie's performance, as I found her character to be quite funny. Overall, if you're that curious you can give this movie a try but if you find yourself completely unsatisfied in the end, or surprised by how ridiculous it is- well don't say I didn't warn you!
