Antwone Fisher Reviews
What a heartwarming and heartbreaking story. Great characters and directing. Tim Treakle
Denzel Washington’s directorial debut is just as representational in handling Antwone Fisher’s therapeutic writing through their respective characters’ influential dynamic in confronting hidden confident strengths that are definitively rooted. Bolstered by precisive performances and emotional resonance built by thematic engagement, the layered story about confrontational healing of the self is cheerfully inspiring to a routine degree. (B+)
How upbringing affects a person.
THis is the true to life psychology drama truly and an incredible film could recommend to everyone
Heartfelt and beautifully acted.
Deep hearttouching drama about terrible childhood affecting and leading life. Nice acting and sweet happyend. One of my personal favorites. ever.
“finally got to watch this outstanding film. Denzel & Derek are sensational. emotional- gripping - heartwarming. one of my all time favorite movies. celebrating those who serve our country & those of the African American community. A story of how to cope with anger, grief & trauma told with strength & triumph, delivering such an important messages to audiences. Derek Luke’s monologue to Viola Davis is undeniably flawless. hands down one of the most brilliant and well told true stories I have ever gotten the pleasure to watch. I salute Antwone Fisher!”
Hollywood biographies more often than not give inaccurate depictions of the people they depict. "Patch Adams" displeased the real Dr. Adams, and "Sully" did not give the real story of Sullenberger and his rescue of the passengers and crew of his jet plane. But while the story was embellished, as the credits admit, the story of the title character rang true. Fisher had his father die before his birth and a teenage mother who was in jail, and he ended up in an abusive foster home before he finally joined the US Navy to better himself. But his psychological problems still existed, and he was ordered to see a counselor. The movie did seem to have a rather pat ending, but a basically true biography is good enough.
Great movie! So touching! Heartwarming story that is real. Totally need to see!
An impressive story based on the real thing, with a real twist at the end which really shows the strength of the story. There's a lot to learn from this, really.
Denzel Washington tells a complex, powerful true story of finding oneself and one's family in his first film as director, as well as Fisher himself as writer, and Derek Luke as the lead.
I knew nothing about Antwone Fisher and his incredibly moving story before watching this film which definitely falls under the "Jimmy V flick" category, allowing the audience to experience the full range of emotional responses before the conclusion. This definitely felt a bit too predictable and unoriginal at times though, and despite being a true story, I still felt like I had seen this plot many times before. Derek Luke was pretty good and Denzel gave a confidently well crafted performance in support. This one did stick the landing too which made it easier to look past some of the criticisms I had while watching. 6.5/10
You better have a box of tissues. The struggle is ongoing for kids in foster care and waiting for adoption, and even moreso for children of color and older children who need love and guidance.
Desperately sad, deeply emotional, and extremely engaging. Brilliant movie! Such a sad story, brilliantly told
This drama was really good. Derek Luke, Denzel Washington, Joy Bryant, and the rest of the cast did a fantastic job in this movie. This true story was very dramatic, heartwarming, and inspirational. It's about facing your demons so you can move on with your life and discovering the truth about your family even if it's difficult. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you should check it out sometime. You'll enjoy it.
Love this movie so much!
It's a well constructed and thought out film that as somebody who's adopted doesn't work for me. Not in the least, I like happy endings as much as the next guy, but his story in the third act isn't plausible and I'd wager there was much poetic license used by writer and titular character Antwone Fisher. Final Score: 5.8/10
