Apollo 11 Reviews
Simply incredible and inspiring! To see real footage and listen to real audio from one of the most inspiring events in history is a privilege and a blessing. The film tastefully selects the proper archival footage and audio and takes a minimally necessary approach to illustrating the various steps required to complete the mission. The focus is definitely kept to the actual footage. I teared up multiple times with this one as a result of the beauty, bravery, and sheer collaborative effort of brilliant minds that made Apollo 11 possible
This is the greatest documentary of all time. Absolutely beautiful footage, can’t believe the film was locked up in archives all these years. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve rewatched this.
A great update of the footage of the trip to the moon.
Very good movie. There is no drama, there are no personal problems. It only focuses on the development and completion of the mission. 95% of the images are unpublished and not seen before in documentaries.
This documentary/film is not for everyone. I love space and I found this a bit tiresome at times. It's very interesting as someone who didn't know much about the Apollo 11 mission. This is more of a history class kinda movie than a must watch
Apollo 11 is an amazing documentary with incredible remastered and never seen before footage by NASA, that will leave you with a fresh and breathtaking impression of the Apollo 11 mission.
The best documentary movie ever made!
great represtation of the well-known story of the first man on the moon. Also the acting is great. Absolute recommend!
A brilliant achievement, presenting this original footage of the moon landings with all original audio and no adornment or commentary. I have no scientific or technical knowledge at all but found this completely accessible, hypnotic and gripping. Some of the footage is truly remarkable, and there are some small revelations - like that Armstrong's heart rate at the point of touchdown on the moon was 156 - that give the most human of light and shade to a story that is so out of reach to all of us. To those of us, like me, not alive when this happened, this is a thrilling watch.
I agree with the New Yorker review. Amazing footage, but the lack of narration and contextualization made it kind of boring and hard to get through.
Incredibly well done doc. As if we were sitting on the front row seat to the moon.
A masterpiece documenting mankind's greatest achievement: masterfully edited, splicing together well-known and newly discovered archival footage, the beautifully restored film makes much of this documentary appear as if it was filmed 5 years ago, not 50. Absent commentary, aside from minimal additions from Walter Cronkite's coverage that adds just a sprinkle of necessary context, the story is driven by the tense moments inherent in such a monumental mission; the take-off, transfer to the lunar modual, the landing, and the splashdown. Despite knowing the outcome ("No way...that's great! We landed on the moon!"), the superb editing injected natural tension and suspense for nearly the entire 93 minutes. You can feel the enormity of the mission at hand on the faces of Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins as they suit up prior to launch. One of the greatest Oscar snubs of recent memory for not taking Best Documentary.
An amazing collection of archival footage, synched with audio that makes you proud to be human.
Apollo 11 is a slow paced documentary that will leave you from beggining to end wondering how they were able to transform 60's footage into beauty - teaching you history while doing so.
It was great to watch a documentary about the moon landing in an epic IMAX format. As a millennial I always took the moon landing for granted, even once believed it was fake. This film allowed me a glimpse into the magic and the logistical magnitude of this world changing cultural event, all wrapped in an explosive IMAX experience.
At times, a thrilling visual treat, especially the footage that must have been archival 35mm converted IMAX footage. I'm old enough to have watched live coverage on television. I was almost moved to tears reliving the experience.
What a treasure! A perfect and definitive encapsulation of this historic event that will undoubtedly serve as an educational tool from this point forward. The footage on the ground is absolutely stunning and I'm so upset that I missed seeing this in IMAX.
I thought it was an interesting look at the space program in the early 70's and how it captured the world to get to the moon and back along with the men & women who made it possible.
Most historical documentaries seek to provide as much context as possible, to create an authoritative retrospective that takes into account content that no one individual at the actual time of the events in question would have in full measure - think the carefully constructed narration and varied viewpoints of Ken Burns. What Apollo 11 does instead, is to transport its viewers back to the event itself, to recreate the feelings of wonder, excitement, and stress that those involved in the Apollo 11 project and the global audience themselves felt in the heat of the moment, taking the extraordinary step of utilizing entirely period footage and dialogue, only adding in soundtrack accompaniment in sparing moments. What results is a highly entertaining and transformative rendition of one of the most remarkable events in human history, and an entirely unique take on modern documentary film. (4/5)
Original footage of the moon mission has been put together in this documentary movie, to show the moon landing mission with the original dialogues (only in english) and technical data about the speeds and position of the spacecraft.
