Assassin's Creed Reviews

Apr 26, 2025

Very good action scenes, almost like in the game. In short, it fulfills the objective of a movie: having a good time watching an action movie.

Despite its visual flare, the story made no sense to me, and it felt really disconnected from the games. This movie can definitely be avoided, whether you're an Assassin's Creed fan or not.

The only thing wrong with this film is that they had to try and tell an entire Assassins Creed story in under 2 hours. I wish they would have used a limited series for it. That being said, I liked the movie a lot.

For a film made from a computer game, it started pretty strongly - and went well up to about 2/3 of the way through. The "Apple of Eden contains the key to free will" plotline was always total bollocks, but the action sequences and some sub-plots (father/son, father/daughter, potential being realised) were not bad. Then the ending was so gob-smackingly awful: the assassins... assassinated everyone in about 2 minutes and the film just ended. Game over.

No. Rewrite this, please. I am not even familiar with the video game, but my son chose the film because he knew about the video game. They probably would have written a more interesting story if they had just stayed in the past.

I think this movie got more hate than it deserved. It had an interesting storyline that aligned with the video games (story-wise), even though Templars vs Assassins isn't hard to emulate. It practically could have been a Desmond Miles story, if he was related to a Spanish Assassin. The movie definitely had a Brotherhood or Unity feel to it, with Cal being surrounded by Assassin's either in the past or at the Abstergo building. The actors did an excellent job stepping into their roles. The characters were fleshed out and Cal had good character development over the course of the movie. I will say, Marion/Sofia didn't need to stand next to the Animus the whole time like a cheerleader "oh, do it. jump. roll." It was awkward to watch and again, gave nothing to the story. We could take those parts out and nothing would change, or we could just have her debrief Cal after he exits the Animus for the same effect. But, with every good, there must be bad. There wasn't much of a reason to make the Animus into a giant claw. It was purely there for aesthetics, because the video game does perfectly well integrating the Bleeding Effect without having to watch the present-day character act everything out. It looked cool for aesthetics, but was pointless for the story. At times, it seemed as if the characters were mumbling, which doesn't add to the story at all. Such as, in the end, the last time we see Aguilar is when he stares at the ceiling and mumbles under his breath with no translation. Overall, I give the movie 4/5 stars. I would like to see another Assassin's Creed game that overall aligns more closely to the games or if they made a sequel and used the feedback to make it better.

The beginning is fine - as time goes on, the video games become more fascinating and interesting, even the worst ones in the series.

I wish it was half as good as one of their games. Good idea, mediocre to poor execution.

As someone who has not played the games I can't attribute to its accuracy, but as a film it felt they did not have time to finish the story they wanted to tell.

I love this game and wanted to love this movie so much. Excellent actors with money behind it, good studio but it seemed like it's just scratching at the surface of what the game is. Also, the weird switch from a bed apparatus in the game to a claw in the movie is rather odd and unnecessary.

I am just seeing this for the first time after it is now on Max. While it would seem confusing at first, being a huge fan of the games (which can also be confusing at times) this movie adaptation did a great job of adapting the game to a live action movie. I think critics are a little too harsh. You’ll notice the audience rating is higher than the critics and normally that’s all that matters. 5* for me.

Long time fan of the games and I actually enjoyed this and wished they would’ve continued on

Mar 7, 2025

Unconvincing, boring, horrible.

One of the most boring movies I’ve ever seen. There’s so many characters and stories, and when the riot prisoners die the camera zooms in on them like they’re extremely important characters to the story. Also how is Cal a part of the brotherhood now? When was he adopted into the brotherhood? Not only that but the beginning of the movie is really, really boring and slow (not unlike some of the games) and barely anything makes sense. I’d rather wear shoes with glass shards in them, drink petrol and play the beginning of AC 2 than watch this movie again.

Decent action, decent story for most of the movie. Ending was a little anticlimactic and felt like it was trying to setup a sequel. Acting was ok to pretty bad, side characters really didn't make an impact as the movie seemed to want them to. Never played the games past a 10-15 minute demo but seemed relatively on brand to the games. I am sure there are a bunch of easter eggs I didn't understand due to not knowing the game. Hopefully those felt good for the gamers who love the franchise, though I get the idea they were pretty flat "Like o cool that sword from this game." and then boom that was all it was.

I'm sorry but the negative reviews of this movie are from the perspective of movie critique. But it needs to be critique like a video game movie and a video game not just a standard piece of cinema. That bar is set much higher when it's an adaptation of something that you play interactively. There is so much from the games that is incorporated, including a very heavy storyline, but that is no different than the games and if you played the games, you would know that that was a crucial part to the video game experience and this movie itself. If it was less of a plot, it would've been far worse. Complex integrated storylines have always been a main stay in the assassin's Creed universe. This movie was no different excellent directing excellent acting by Michael Fasbender..

Boring, excruciating to sit through, ridiculously complex plot, a waste of good acting talent.

Feb 21, 2025

it could have been much better than it is the story is mid but i still watched it like 11 times already so i guess its not that bad

Feb 19, 2025
