Audrey Reviews

If you dont know very much about her career, or her work as a UNICEF ambassador, its a user-friendly stroll through a remarkable life. It is, however, missing those little moments of disclosure that make you see a familiar face in a whole new light.

A valuable documentary... lets you see how that conscious decision not to pity onerself was the nucleus from which the light emanated from her not only as a person but the characters she played. [Full review in Spanish]

Many actors cite unhappy childhoods, but few triumphed over such dire privation as Audrey Hepburn. As we learn in the lovely documentary Audrey.

...a film made with reverence and love, and likely to connect with a wide audience who remember Hepburn as one of the great film-stars of the 20th century...

| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 22, 2021

Adoring documentary chronicles Hollywood icon's whole life.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 21, 2021

does an admirable job filling in a few blanks in her life story...and makes it clear that she was a genuinely decent person with loads of insecurities and a unique acting style.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Jan 15, 2021

Hepburn confronted challenges both in front of and away from the camera, and Audrey shows she's an icon not because she's the archetype of what every woman should be.

Pleasant and engaging viewing, especially for lovers of film history and Hollywood.

I enjoyed the documentary while fully aware of its faults. What I appreciated about it was that it went to rather great lengths to highlight the personal stuff.

Who doesn't love Audrey Hepburn? Unfortunately, this is a not very good film that tells you a lot less about her than it should.

Coan's film plays with this in-between-ness Hepburn's characters found themselves in, to give structure to a refreshing narrative more interested in portraying a human being than in telling the story of a movie star.

| Original Score: B+ | Dec 28, 2020

As a basic primer for those going into it with little more than a general awareness of who Hepburn was, "Audrey" is a perfectly adequate overview of her life and work.

Even if you watch it alone on a laptop with a bottle of cheap beer and a dried-up turkey sandwich, Audrey is a pleasure. That's mostly due to the still-incandescent star power of its subject.

| Dec 18, 2020

While lacking new insights, the film provides ample evidence of her star power and a solid summary of her journey through show business and humanitarian work.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Dec 16, 2020

Yes, Audrey Hepburn packed a lot into her 63 years on this planet, as Helena Coan's fascinating, but flawed documentary demonstrates.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 16, 2020

Hepburn's sparkle and charm prove as irresistible as ever, but it feels like there's so much more to say.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 30, 2020

Helena Coan's new documentary Audrey reminds us that, while far from the greatest screen actress of her generation, Hepburn was a consummate movie star.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 29, 2020

The late, great screen beauty Audrey Hepburn, as this fascinating new documentary reveals, was different to the most iconic of the characters she played on film.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 29, 2020

That said, this mostly feels like a project designed to soothe hard-core fans and is basically pretty bland. The real Hepburn had bite.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 29, 2020

Sweet, but totally cringeworthy.
