Austenland Reviews
I could not stop laughing (in a good way) during this entire film! Keri Russell and Jennifer Coolidge were magnificent!! JJ Feild was smoking as Henry Nobley.
I watched this because I'm a huge Keri Russell fan. The movie was cute, but could've been Way Better. The idea was smart. And I enjoyed the twist. Something was missing though, & it got a little too silly sometimes.
Don't be fooled by the terrible reviews. I couldn't stop laughing. This is such a funny, refreshing, clever and romantic movie!
Must see for Pride and Prejudice Fans, Gives you all the feels and some comedy . Loved it
Its premise is undoubtedly original, but Austenland's largely dull and repetitive humor keep it from being a worthwhile watch.
I am convinced that this comedic masterpiece goes over some of the other reviewers heads or perhaps the concept of humor alludes them all together. This is hilarious from start to finish. If you are a big fan of Jane Austen and the romance genre you will enjoy this movie and you will understand all of its tropes, cliches, and campiness for what it is. A satire. A must watch for any devoted romance fan who has seen all that the genre has offered us. This film was made for you.
Amazing! Jane Austen fans must see!!
This is my absolute favourite movie. I think the reason its ratings are so low is that a lot of people go into it expecting a period rom-com, or a much more serious film, when it's actually a secret third thing: a loving parody of period romances and romance novels, set in what is effectively a Pride and Prejudice LARP. While it pokes fun at the genre, it does so with a great deal of affection—satires based on derision are never actually fun, and this is quite the opposite. It's extremely silly, full of in-jokes and tropes for romance lovers, and makes no affectations of historical accuracy, which frankly only makes it funnier. Jennifer Coolidge, Ricky Whittle and Bret McKenzie are particularly hilarious. I also adore the soundtrack, which includes songs by the very under-appreciated artist Emmy the Great. Ignore the low ratings—for the genre-aware viewer, this is an absolute treat.
Without a doubt my go-to comfort movie!! I laugh and swoon every time I watch this move and I've seen it at least 100 times! Jennifer and Georgia kill me this whole movie!!
I was so pleasantly surprised by this movie. Very funny and refreshing. I loved it and have watched it twice in a month. It makes a change from all the trites that have come out in recent years.
Austen fans should run screaming from this mess of a film.
A stupid, funny movie. Perfect for a rainy day.
I decided to give this rom-com a chance for a change of pace for the family. Despite its cliches it entertained with some originality and fun. It was on VUDU.
i thought this was SUPER cute. i fricken love Jennifer Coolidge - & Kerri Russell does such a good job too. it's quirky & i loved every minute of it (although i also love Mr Darcy, so maybe that's why? lol). would definitely recommend it to any Austen film fan.
Sick of Hollywood's attempts to keep the Twilight train going with a couple of paranormal romances, including an adaptation of a book written by the same author, in 2013? Then watch a movie produced by the author instead, since Stephenie Meyer was a fan of the book this movie's based on. Yes, I know outside of being romantic, it has nothing to do with Twilight but honestly, I think I would've had no problems turning a blind eye to this romcom had it been produced by anybody else. All that aside, Austenland's okay. It's really nothing special having more than its fair share of romcom cliches but the acting's good, I actually laughed quite a bit and it has a decent premise. It does have weak writing and perhaps the story lends itself better to a five-to-ten minute skit rather thamn a feature film the more I think about it but, compared to the next Meyer-produced movie Down a Dark Hall, Austenland is a more enjoyable movie.
Yes, it's a silly movie. It's basically fan fiction for modern Austen fans. I think they let Jennifer Coolidge go a little too wild with improv. Jane's motivations and the impetus for the trip to Austenland were much better set up in the book, but I still enjoy this movie. It's one of my guilty pleasure movies.
I like the idea of making a film that is in the present and have a Fantasy of living in the 19th century....
This film is hilarious. Yes, you'll have to watch it a few times to catch some of the funny small details, but it's totally worth it! My family absolutely LOVES it. Funny, corny, non-slapstick humor, and cute! A must see in my book.
This is a fun, easy, quirky, rom com. For Austen fans, there are lots of nods to our favorite books. But even for people who have never read Jane Austen, it's a delightful movie. The sets and costumes are spot on, and Hess gets amazing performances from the actors. Get some popcorn and prepare for an entertaining couple of hours. You're in for a treat.
Cute and fun! Loved this movie
