Bachelorette Reviews
Have you seen the film `Bridesmaids?' It's pretty much the question you have to ask yourself when you're considering watching the `Bachelorette.' It's effectively a poor clone/remake/whatever. It's about a woman who's going to get married the next day, when her best friends accidentally tear up her wedding dress (yes, seriously). Therefore, they have to get it fixed in the middle of the night and end up going on a hilarious adventure. Unfortunately, it's not hilarious. It's not even funny. I checked the time on the DVD at about 40 minutes in and I still hadn't laughed. And that's not a good sign for a comedy. If you check out the general reviews, you'll see that most people describe it as a `horrible' film. I wouldn't call it horrible, just not funny. The characters are pretty unlikeable and every mess they get into is largely their fault. You won't really care about any of them and, despite being good actresses (Kristen Dunst and Isla Fisher) they can't bring any real humour to this film. If you like the idea of a film that's basically `a female The Hangover' stick to Bridesmaids. That had charm and humour. This has neither.
Headland is not a good director, period.
Wow.. I thought I was going to enjoy this movie but my experience was anything but that. The main characters are super unlikable and I struggle to believe that these girls have been "friends" for so long. Terrible movie.
This film is crude and nasty. On the plus side, it does make it's own rules as it walks a unique path through a genre that can so often be cliched and predictable. The trouble is, it's frank approach leaves the viewer feeling disconnected. When the film ends you won't care about anything you've seen.
Fat shaming, lots of casual R-word use, bullying, extreme selfishness and betrayal, SO MUCH FAT SHAMING, suicide jokes, casual OD-ing, objectification, hateable characters (like, all of them) and a ton of ridiculous & unrealistic decisions and plot points. There's not even a necessary tone change for a likable resolution- it just keeps on going right up until the end. It's hard to watch from start to finish, but try it if you're curious, I guess. 🤷🏻♀️ PS: Horatio Sanz is listed as ‘barely attractive guy' in the credits; just one indication of how the writer(s) of this film clearly have serious physical insecurities that they should talk to someone about…
A pretty good cast populates this attempt at a somewhat raunchy female led comedy. Rebel Wilson, Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan round out the main stars as they gather for Rebels wedding. There's nothing very funny going on, and I found the best scenes were the more dramatic ones peppered in there. It's not a bad movie, just thought it was a missed opportunity with the talent on display.
Some laughs in it but it really is just the lower budget of "Bridesmaids" Women behaving crudely and bad.
The writing is insensitive and quite mediocre with a couple funny lines but the pros are the delivery and ACTING— the actresses specifically really made me LAUGH (Isla, Kirsten, and Lizzy)! Set aesthetics are good.
Although the performances are great, committed work from some solid thespians, the film is too tonally bipolar, too mean spirited and too unbelievable.
Characters are horrible with, story is horrible.. put this one on the "Do not watch list" Redeeming features of this movie: It eventually ends..
All these actresses are better than this movie. Low class women that are coke heads. There are other ways to achieve comedy.
This isn't my favourite Kirsten Dunst movie ... yet I can't stop watching it. I'll put it on at least once every year or two, it's oddly gripping!
Hands down one of the worst movies I have ever watched. Cringeworthy. Characters all completely unpleasant. Deserves every razzie out there. Just fast forwarded through most it. It is that bad! How could that ever have been made and actually released? A complete waste of time. It is the lowest type of movie. There was nothing remotely funny about it. All connected to this movie should be ashamed of themselves.
Honestly, really not worth your time. The plot is vain at its core and tasteless with its language and the behaviours of her "friends". Had to turn it off because I couldn't bare to watch a second more of the caddiness. Wouldn't even give 1 star.
I wanted to like it since it's full of talented people whose work before and after this I thoroughly enjoy, but there was not one scene where I did not feel fully uncomfortable. Unfortunately it's mostly joyless, mean spirited, fat phobic and rapey. Character motivations didn't make much sense, nobody was redeemed and the dress was ruined. The only character to root for was Rebel Wilson, who is barely on screen and mainly just made fun of by everyone else and she got to marry a sort-of-maybe-okay guy in the end.
The fat shaming and stereotype are alarming, especially watching this again years after it came out. Awful.
If I could give this movie negative stars I would. If you enjoy being triggered about bullying and weight, and like watching people with privilege that is the only way I would recommend watching this movie. not to mention how poorly it has aged with offensive terms that were said as off the cuff remarks. It was so promising with some pretty good comedians and I was expecting kind of a female hangover situation. But felt really uncomfortable throughout this movie.
