Wine, Family and Emotions!
I supplied the wine industry here in Northern California for about six years, thought I might enjoy this. Couldn't keep myself awake while watching it. Pleasant vineyards scenery but unconvincing and stilted plot line. Rather dull.
Beautiful look at but it's more about the scenery and winemaking than the narrative. The story is somewhat interesting but it follows the line of many other movies where families group after a parent dies. It's a gentle movie and mildly entertaining.
Probably lone of the most beautifully coordinated films I've seen in years. Layered and engrossing without being graphic or having gratuitous violence. Find acting. Now all I want is to see it again.
Was good French movie. The male chacters are very, very sensitive men.
No more than an okay movie. It does have some saving grace moments, but the story of family reconciliation and personal growth (in this case represented by the yearly cycle of the vineyard) has been told many times before, and in a better way. The film is predictable and somewhat didactic; the voice over, explaining first the background and then the outcome, is as annoying as it is unnecessary. The movie also seems to channel the never-ending ending of Return of the King: I think it sort of ended at least three times. The pros: beautiful scenery, and you'll learn a lot about wine-making.
Engaging little film about a family who has a domaine in Burgundy. The colors of the vines, the hard work, the reunification of a family, the harvest and gorgeous wines are all marvelous. GO!
