Bacurau Reviews
One of the film's magics is perhaps what makes it not as talked about as it should be, which is not knowing what it's about, but as a Brazilian watching this film I realized that no Brazilian film will be successful if it doesn't address something from the reality of some people suffering in Brazil, but this film is so well constructed, every message to be conveyed, direction and performances are impeccable, you should definitely see this film, and it is a must to see if it is Brazilian.
An engaging story that captures curiosity when least expected.
I was grasping to latch onto a character or two but you don't get the chance. Mostly I was just confused. Got more interesting as it went along but an exercise in patience.
A creative screenplay and a movie that avoids the cliches usually related to Brasil
What a movie. Sharp and precise with a deep and very honest critic about how a few societies see others. Spectacular. Everyone should see it.
The only way to have a good time and find anything good about this movie is to take whatever psychotropic drug the characters took in the movie, because without it, you'll just waste 2 hours of your life.
Now that was bananas.
I am at a loss to understand why this movie is so highly rated. It's terrible. The premise is ludicrous and insulting to the viewer's intelligence. It's also far longer than it needs to be, with many unnecessary scenes and bits that serve only to confuse rather than to enlighten the viewer.
The movie's politics are as subtle as a dump truck driving through a glass window which wouldn't be a huge problem except for the fact that the cartoonish villains make that commentary feel superfluous.
Narratively weak as comparison to its genre blending boldness but feels least compelling for most of its runtime with poorly relatable characters and bad sound design. The sociopolitical aspect is the most interesting part but it is always drowned in unconsisquent chatty sequences. It clearly lacks that unprecedent Filho sense of hagiography of a community at a specific time and get lost in a somewhat dystopian reality that could have been just more effective in working in today's reality. A let down.
