Barely Lethal Reviews

Mar 10, 2025

It's fine. First half was a forgetful teen film. Second half had tons of twists some worked for it some didn't. The story was nothing special. The performances were great. The second half was 1000× better and had me actually paying attention. The first half was weak. The film seemed to be unsure as to what to be. The direction was fine. It felt like a DCOM but had swear words, blood and Violence. Have no idea who this is for, but it is a fun time and Dove Cameron was the most memorable part of the film.

Huge cast. Definitely one of those films at the time seems naff but coming back to feels like a cult classic!! Obsessed.

Great feel good movie. The persona of Samuel L. Jackson in this movie somewhat reminds me of his characters persona in The Long Kiss Goodnight. To be fair ever actor in this move exceptional. Great casting, great production, great story. Everyone involved in this movie deserves an A. Not a Disney+ production, but can rival a Disney+ production on its own terms.

Great movie, lots of laughs. Not sure what everyone was expecting with the bad comments but it was exactly the movie it should have been!

"Barely Lethal" attempts to blend a spy movie with a high school comedy and it excels at neither. The movie has a few funny situations and moments, but it is mostly a flat one that is worse than a lot of the movies it is making fun of. I felt like the movie actually had a decent concept and premise but fails to do anything new or innovative with it. I think the actors in the movie are capable of much better than what they had to work with here so a bad story isn't really their fault. Overall, the movie is forgettable and completely skippable because there are plenty of fish-out-of-water high school comedies out there that are far more entertaining.

It is fun enough but not especially original.

This nearly unrecognizable A24 release actually had a pretty fun concept and a competent lead in Hailee Steinfeld but unfortunately leaned way too hard into the teen movie cliches. I did laugh some but this could have been way more up my alley with an R rating and far less of the high school romantic drama. 4.5/10 Samuel L. Jackson Binge: Jackson had a well tailored role here running a top secret government program aiming to turn children into spies and only wish we could have seen more of him at work. *SLJ January #20

This movie is dumb as hell but it has Hailee Steinfeld, Sophie Turner, and a Steve-O cameo. I had goofy fun with it. Sue me.

Es divertida, pero no es una película que volvería a ver, me reí pero se me hizo innecesaria pero ame las actuaciones

Garbage preteen movie that you can't take seriously. Another money grab and name drop for Samuel L. Jackson.

Cool concept, so and so execution. Starts off super cringy, 80s and cliched (opening/closing monologue and wtf with the creepy teacher?), improves with Dove Cameron's character development and her relationship with the protagonist, an always charming Hailee Steinfeld. Don't understand how a teenage secret agent would not have been taught to fit in with teenagers and every single thing about the disney channel hearthrob wannabe rockstar irritated me, but there are some nice lines here and there. Not the worst film out there, but filled to the brim with clichès and the great cast is not enough to save a pretty unoriginal script.

It was a fun movie that doesn't take itself seriously. It is a comedy after all. I found nothing wrong with the acting. The romantic aspect was very touching, if not expected.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. A stereotypical romcom movie with nothing unique about it.

Its not good Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it and i like the actors in the movie. Its fun unfortunately with bad cgi. Barely lethal is less than lethal. Its Won't kill you while watching it its funny entertainment. Give it a try.

This was a fun background movie to watch for free on Netflix. A high school movie meets spy mashup. Great cast- fine acting, cute and cheesy storyline.

With an interesting premise and a strong cast, the direction could use more refinement and the writing more originality.

While sometimes this movie can be confusing, but as a whole it is a good action drama movie. Many times the wit is very clever and well thought out.

intro is a bit weird beginningis a little slow Special effects are trash Thought the scenes with the nerdy son and nerdy dad was pretty funny The movie wanted me to watch the diary of a wimpy kid instead of this I found myself looking at Reddit halfway through because this movie is pretty boring There is a major plot hole in about 1 hour into the movie. If the agent cant get her weapons then how does she manage to get grenades and guns? I can also never listen to bad reputation ever again smh Fighting scenes you cant tell whats going on half the time

This shit sucks so bad. The script is nonsense, the plot is a joke, the acting is inconsistent, the camera work is bizarre. Back to the script....I cannot stress enough how inappropriate, gross, and clunky this script. I firmly blame the director for make this disaster, maybe there were budget problems but that isn't an excuse for abomination of a movie. "But this is a children's movie" is it comedy? Is it a musical? I don't care! Kids deserve to watch better movies. Stop teaching your kids that this lack of artistic direction has anything to do with what a movie is. I hate this garbage so badly. Remove it from Netflix and burn every dvd. Barely Lethal is not a movie, it's a black stain in the history of filmography.
