Beautiful Boy Reviews
Absolutely incredible film. Both Steve Carell and Timothee Chalamet are brilliant and work together so well. It is not a light watch but incredibly emotive and a truly beautiful piece of cinema.
Just an amazing move
Yes, it coasts and just that, but this was required to portray how these drugs can disrupt a somewhat normal existence even when there is no clear cause. The film touches on every part of addiction and Timothée’s acting skills meticulously illustrated the vulnerability and fear of victims.
I'm not sure if it's because I took a sensitive moment, but beautiful boy came to touch sensitive fibers more than one occasion. I wasn't looking for anything and found a simple movie, with a great message and above all honest. To what extent is it healthy for you and the people around you to continue trying to maintain a relationship? In the end, I think that's what's important, the message it conveys, and that's why it ends up winning the audience. It doesn't matter how much you want to save someone, if that person doesn't want to save himself, no matter how much it hurts, you can't do anything.
this movie had best score i have heard in a long time. amazing character performances dealing with a sensitive subject. i loved it. will hug my kids tighter tomorrow. P.
This movie did not follow the book at all and the jumping around past to the present with out context made it very difficult to follow. If I had not read the book first I would have been completely lost
this film was a great example of what addiction can look like through the users eyes, the family, and loved ones affected by it. Though it's a little difficult to navigate some of the scenes because they are scattered, it still is a very touching film. David is a loving father who would do anything for his son, even if it meant trying the drug just to experience what his son is going through. This film should not be taken lightly and is a perfect realistic example of what addiction looks like from both perspectives. WE NEED MORE MOVIES LIKE THIS.
This movie really touched my heart, so it comes highly recommend by the critics because it is relatable for many people. The plot shows how an addict can get to the lowest point of his life by losing himself by not only hurting him but also his family. David, the father, was constantly struggling with the change of humor of his son caused by the drugs. As a consequence, he ended up feeling extremely guilty even though he shouldn't had felt that way. Beautiful boy demonstrates the reality of being an addict. When you recover, it is not linear, and relapsing is a part of the process. Nic realized how relatively easy it was to relapse, and he did it so many times that even his dad thought that it was a lost cause and stopped helping him. Not because he didn't love him, but because he also had a life, a wife and kids to take care of. I loved every second of it. The entire movie made me cry absolutely devastated like 4 different times. Totally beautiful
gut wrenching movie honestly! interesting to see the pov of an addict but also the pov of loving, caring and worrying for an addict, one of my fave movies yall gotta get on this
This movie was very touching to me. I think everyone should be encouraged to watch it, as it does an amazing job portraying the constant, unstable fight that one faces during addiction. I really enjoyed getting to see things from a parent's perspective, especially since I don't have children of my own. It truly highlights the fact that addiction doesn't only affect the user, but also their loved ones, and how it impacts family dynamics. It took a while for me to finally be ready to watch this film and I am glad I did.
It is shocking to see what addictions do to a person. This emotional movie tells the story of one such case, but it drags in the middle part causing the movie to feel slow.
This movie told the story that David Sheff was writing in real life so well and it was just a great movie. This is based off on a true story and what makes this movie so muc better, is that this stuff happens all the time. David Sheff who is played by Steve Carell is doing his absolute best to take care of his son Nic Sheff who is played by Timothee Chalamet. Nic is addicted to drugs and the sad part about this movie, is that he keeps failing the rehab process. David had to learn to let his child go at one point in the movie because he did everything that he possibly could to help his son become clean. The movie itself was sad because this family is under a lot of stress always worrying about Nic and where he is when he just dissapears. The story of this film is absolutely beautiful and everyone should watch this film if they get the chanc. Overall, such a great story and the cast was such a great fit for this movie.
I found it to be a wonderful depiction of the struggles overall in dealing with addiction from both viewpoints. It shed an actual light on those who are struggling and how it is to be on the receiving end of it.
This film changed my life, and the books!. the way it portrays different perspectives, it really shows of the actors and actresses talents. The two stars of the film, Timothee Chalamet and Steve Carell. I knew what the film was basically about but I was unsure because I only saw Steve play in 'The Office' and he was great at playing a stupid, funny character however I was worried he wasn't going to do justice for the more angsty character. And boy, was I proven wrong. His acting was amazing in this film and did show what it really is like being on the other side of addiction. Now, Timothee Chalamet's role, Nick. Nick is a challenging character to play. To represent how impactful addiction really is, its increasingly challenging due to how it's telling thousands of peoples experiences and not wanting to fail to do the role justice. This was the first role i saw of Timothee and the talent that man has is indescribable, he should be really proud in this project. Overall, the film shows how important support is for a recovering addict and more. shows every side of the story, truly beautiful.
A very real, honest and touching portrayal of the struggles for the individual and those around them. Worth the watch, and worth remembering the challenges all face in this terrible epidemic.
As someone with addiction and who has been sober for 25 years, this movie is an indication of how even the most loving parents cannot help someone who has a big, empty hole in the soul which tragically seems only to be able to be filled( in. the addict's mind) with deadly substances. The despair, the lost hope, the mistrust and disconnect from someone you brought into this world and now watch destroy themselves is very beautifully depicted in this film. Not to mention the feeling of complete disconnection to the world and their feelings inside the addict. I'm praying for Nick on journey in sobriety.
As someone with small children, this movie was touching. As someone who had addict parents, this movie was moving. Timothee did an amazing job as his character. Steve did an amazing job as his character. The highs and lows of this movie portray the real life of an addict. Bawled my eyes out the entire time.
I cannot believe that this movie is based on a true story. Its devasting and heartwarming. I loved it so much and would watch it again.
13/13 wouldnt watch again.
Very emotional and touching movie, prepare tissues because you will easily shed some tears.
