Becky Reviews
Why do so many films cast comedy actors in serious roles? It really ruins the mood. Kevin James is about as threatening as a teddy bear. It’s not just Kevin though, none of the cast except Lulu Wilson are right for their roles. Becky is awesome as a character and the casting of Lulu is so good but the rest of the cast don’t fit the roles and the characters are dull. Otherwise it’s quite engaging although a little slow and repetitive in places. The car crash looked fake. The story isn’t very good either and the ending is especially disappointing. It’s like a beautifully made and very violent Home Alone (1990) but also flawed. It’s a good film let down by bad decisions. The incredible titular character is sadly squandered.
The frustration and sorrow in Becky portrays a realistic grief of loss and in turn a response absolutely warranted
Becky is a campy, over-the-top revenge flick that’s surprisingly fun. The premise of a little girl outsmarting and taking down a group of dangerous criminals might seem ridiculous, and yeah, there are plenty of moments where logic takes a backseat, but it works. Becky’s resourcefulness and sheer determination make her escape and revenge satisfying to watch. The movie leans into its absurdity in all the right ways, with scenes that had me shaking my head but still enjoying every second. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is part of the charm. Sure, some parts are far-fetched, but hey, it’s a movie you just go with it. Overall, Becky delivers on what it promises: a wild, entertaining ride that keeps you hooked, even if it bends reality a little too much. Definitely one I’d rewatch when I’m in the mood for some fun, campy revenge
Good idea with EXTREMELY poor execution. Kevin James as the main antagonist was laughable.
I'll open by saying I don't particularly like gore and slasher films. However I have enjoyed the ones that are campy and can make fun of the genre. Becky is almost or sometimes entirely reaching that style. It is a mixed bag of things so I am sure it gets mixed reviews. I think it would have done better by sticking to the campy/satirical violence but it veers into lengthier dialogues and the heroine's dark psyche steers it into slasher territory. In my opinion the plot falls into the lap of three characters by the second half and the rest are support so it's not complicated to follow. Even if generally this is not my thing, I really liked the first quarter starting from the beginning because of the imaginative camera closeups and transitions that would be appealing to the eye in any film.
Becky serves as an okay diversion, but it lacks substance, suffers from extreme repetitiveness, and is highly predictable from the outset. Additionally, there are insufficient elements to truly connect the audience with the character of Becky, who ultimately comes across as quite shallow and not really interesting. These factors do not facilitate the suspension of disbelief, as everything that unfolds is way too far-fetched to be credible, including in a gonzo-type film where one typically indulges in the action without much reflection or expectation.
Nice one, good for a watch, quite brutal, I like Kevin James here, Lulu Wilson does a good job as Becky, but for some reason she`s not interesting or likable enough, to really root for her, besides that I don`t like, that the giant "Apex" is getting quite some time in the movie to show that he is not a real villain and gets shot in the end... off course, You can ask, what the key was for, especially, why it was with the family...but I did not need that information to enjoy the movie. Again, not perfect and well, Becky as the hero is not really a great selling point, but still, a nice watch :)
Hilarious, Kevin James is as awful as a bad guy as I expected, hits every generic stereotype and trope imaginable, the acting is so awful is borders on the ridiculous. Worth a watch if you get a twisted delight in cringe inducing films.
Well, there is a story here and it trundles along OK, but there is an unforgivable plot chasm - what is the key the bad guys are looking for, what does it open and most of all why do Becky's family have it? It seems to be completely random on all fronts. Even worse, nobody is curious about it - nobody says "What key? What on earth...?" etc. The whole film is rubbish without explaining this - there is no point to it at all. I understand, though, that there is some explanation of the key (but not why Becky had it) in the sequel. Could the filmmakers have anticipated a sequel when they made this one? Surely not, say I; covering their backs after the event perhaps.
This movie was great. Bought the movie and can't wait to see the second one. The cast was fantastic and I loved seeing Kevin James in this role.
Violent gory fun! Kevin James like you've never seen. Lulu Wilson is great!
Fantastic film, some choice casting really made the difference.
I loved it and the sequel is even better. I love the character Becky and could not get enough of her. I can't wait for the third movie.
If a horror version of home alone is what you are looking for this will not disappoint. Filled with a good bit of gore. Good revenge fun
Think ‘Home Alone in the woods if Kevin was bloodthirsty and seeking revenge'. Ultimately, I think they could've done more with the premise but it's always amusing to watch a girl kick ass.
"Cool movie! Lots of intensity! Fantastic performance by Kevin James. His transformation is astounding!! Lulu Wilson's performance is incredible raw and intense! She is definitely a star in the making!"
camera shots were enjoyable. I definitely did not buy the plot line. also, there is nothing scary about an angsty teen. and they key? could have used some more background and/or significance. the gore was meh- i found it to be more comedic than anything.
Couldn't watch it all the way through really couldn't get into it at all 4/10
I loved it, great story, well done gore and attention acting was also very good. Would recommend to any horror fan!
A great movie with lots of suspense, surprises, great acting and fantastic gore. Also it's really nice to see Kevin James back in a movie and he is so intimidating in this film.
