Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator Reviews
It's a middle ground between crime and the least common of all senses, common sense. A good docu that tries hard to present different sides of the coin only to discover there are none. It's sad that yoga started like this. [Full review in Spanish]

Speaks to the various ways that individual and legal cowardice, misogyny and self-interest help perpetuate such misconduct; which, in the end, makes [it] not only an eye-opening account of Bikram's wretchedness, but a vital act of speaking truth to power.

It provided a bog-standard portrait of yet another sweaty tyrant, reinforcing the one rule of life: never trust anyone who likes Rolls-Royces.

Netflix's Bikram documentary gets even more disturbing.

The content is unforgettable, a reminder to question those in positions of power, even ones who seem only to want to help you.

Big Yoga is having its reckoning moment. And the Bikram documentary is the capstone.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 6, 2019
Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator takes a single-minded approach, only interested in exposing the moral and legal transgressions of the subject, and the case is beyond convincing.
| Dec 4, 2019
The documentary isn't interested in differentiating sinners from saints, presenting the conflicted feelings of Bikram's victims alongside those who remain devoted fans.

It's plain, straightforward and feels like one long news report with lots of factual reporting. At some point there is bigger, deeper work to be done on the appeal of the coiled, angry masculinity of Choudhury.

Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator is both an accusation and a reminder that we're repeating a pattern.

A bit long and overly surface considering the depths to which Chaudhury lied to build his empire. But the accounts of the assaults he committed are enough to keep a viewer's interest.

Bikram marks Orner's style as one of the doggedly determined documentarian as her films tell urgent stories buoyed by hard-to-get images that hold guilty parties accountable for their crimes.

Over the course of 90 minutes, Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator successfully separates the man from the myth and reveals a monster.
| Nov 21, 2019
This haunting documentary is a powerful addition to a growing body of post #MeToo films... that show how cultural power is accumulated and weaponized.
| Nov 21, 2019
Even though Choudhury's crimes are a matter of record, Yogi, Guru, Predator is very damning.

Bikram has more in common with HBO's Leaving Neverland, a similarly sensitive testimonial account of Michael Jackson's alleged crimes, than Wild Wild Country, another story about an Indian immigrant who came to America with a knapsack of exotic ideas.
| Nov 21, 2019
As a gesture toward justice, Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator succeeds. As a film, it is mediocre.

It doesn't say much about abusive charlatans, their enablers, and their victims, that we don't already know.

It's an especially effective look at how such abuses have been allowed to fester, exploiting protective institutions as well as the allegiance and hunger of those involved.

Orner's documentary takes some satisfying turns.
