Billy Elliot Reviews
I usually end up watching Marvel or Jason Statham since I have 2 sons. This unlikely film was a masterpiece in my opinion.
ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER MADE. PERIOD.
Felt representative and totally inspirational for such a film!
Treat yourself to this wonderful movie. You will laugh, maybe hold back some tears, maybe feel like dancing yourself at the end. This movie is a winner!
I don't get it - supposed to be about ballet and 5,000 kids auditioned for the part but Jamie Bell got it because...? He's better than the script, direction, and music--all of which feels so drippy, syrupy and maudlin (I skipped this film when in the theatres because I had a hunch it would be like this--and it is just what I intuited 20+ years ago)--but he is a terrible dancer. And the weird thing that no one says that anywhere. Maybe because he was a kid when this was filmed, and the character is a kid, but many boys of 13 can dance so much better than this. When he does dance, it's this gangly, spastic, clogging, sort of tap-dancey traditional Irish step dancing, with some weirdly bad jumps with arms and legs bent, going in different directions. I have the hunch this movie has a cult following---in the way that The Wizard of Oz did with a certain demographic. Maybe that's why it typically is met with uncritical praise? I don't know....but I do know it was a struggle to get through.
A glimpse into Billy's world offers tears, laughter, the gruelling realities of the miner's strikes, the painstaking confusion and joy of discovering who you are, red lipstick and t rex. A masterpiece in which I discover new perspective and food for thought every time I watch. I am weeping!
I wondered how it would fill the entire runtime with such a simple premise especially since it sets up the story so quick as well. It turns out it's much more than a boy learning to dance but a coming of age story as well and it adds so much. The acting is amazing with so many touching scenes with his family, especially his Dad, and his dance teacher who all sacrifice and come together so he can have a future and follow his dreams. It masterfully flows and is filled with moving and tender scenes. The soundtracks rocks and is an amazing mix of rock and ballet which is so unique. Masterfully executed across all levels. Everyone should give this a try once and follow your dreams no matter what! All Time Classic.
A triumph! Simply excellent!
I had heard of this film after finding out Jamie Bell won a BAFTA for this role. I didn't know about what would make him win for this film. After watching it, it made sense. His acting as a young adolescent was spot on and he brought a lot of musicality, but didn't get rid of his essence in finding his passion and determination. The story was simple, yet effectively conveyed about his passion for dancing and how with the toughest circumstances, he has shown that the impossible can be achieved. The supporting role of Julie Walters was also spot on, where the character performed a mentor relationship with the character Billy. Another highly recommended film to watch again in the future.
The best acting performance from Jamie Bell!
The movie Billy Elliot was excellent. The development of Billy's dad's character caught my attention in particular. The development was accomplished perfectly. Although the progression from the resistant to change father to the accepting and enthusiastic supporter of a son interested in anything unusual
This is by far the best classic movie made. Watching this movie I've had no regrets I enjoyed it so much I had to watch it twice. My honest opinion is I found it to be very classic as it's the original movie made so it wasn't too extra or crazy. This movie includes scenes with humor, drama, and some adult language. The name of the movie is called ‘Billy Elliot' it is about a boy who does boxing once a week but finally finds his passion for ballet after some time. He then becomes better with the training and help of Mr. Wilkinson's‘ ballet teacher,' This movie was set in county Durham North East England. It was filmed in 1984 during the miner's strike rage. The main characters are Billy, Jackie, and Mrs. Wilkinson. This story is about a boy who becomes a ballet dancer after solving some misunderstandings/disagreements with his family. In my opinion ill say most actors did a good job because throughout the film although opinions were changed they were supporting Billy after they understood what he wanted. Throughout watching this movie I've had some scenes I really liked, one of them is towards the ending I don't wanna spoil anything. Another scene is how the father supported Billy. What I didn't like is how they didn't mention or explain to us how the mother passed. Some lesson I learned was to always be open with the people important to you especially when you don't know how they'll react because it's better if they heard it sooner than later. Some lessons people may take from the movie are to do what you want most and what you feel like you can do. Some quotes from the movie that I found had a lot of meaning are "Where you are born does not define your future" and "Don't let anything get in the way of you running after your dreams". This movie would be perfect for people who do ballet or don't do what they really want because they're scared of what might happen. Because of the inappropriate language in the movie I definitely wouldn't say it's good for young people but acceptable for the ages of 15 and above, so if you are under the age of 15 this movie wouldn't be recommended for you. The MPAA should be Mature Accompanied (MA 15+). Overall the movie is good because of the story and meaning behind it. 5/5
Amazing! I love this movie so much! It's an inspiring story that tells of a young boy who struggles to do ballet because of the obstacles in his way. It will inspire those who really wanna do something but can't because of what's in their way. You feel all of the emotions he's feeling and truly want to see him succeed despite everything that seems to be against him.
Billy Elliot is a generous film in which a young boy discovers a passion to dance during the miner strike of 1984-85. The film potrays a young boy named Billy who grew up in North England. The director Steven Dauldry employs a range of techniques which enhances the films overall quality. One of the strategies he uses is music. Such as the song "I was dancing when I was 12" in which it helps the audience understand how you need to dance when you are younger and develop the talent. This film is an overall great watch for a mature audience as it does include swear words. I personally recommend this to an audience of 15years of age or above. It provides a great insight on life during the 80s and the hardships that people face.
billy Elliot is a classic movie that displays a young boy who is very dedicated to his passion. Billy Elliot has an aspiration at odds with his father's. Billy wants to become a professional ballet dancer, while Jackie, his coal-miner father, sends him to the gym to learn boxing.
This movie is PHENOMENAL! I had never heard about this movie before which is a tragedy as it was a beautiful movie about overcoming adversities in your life, and not to limit yourself for your worth and class as you can always strive for more. I had seen this movie in my free time and thought that it was very boring and slow in the beginning, which was a small negative aspect. However, it got much better at the midpoint of the movie and got much more interesting as the main character Billy was starting to find out his passion for dance. this movie is also a drama, comedy about a kid that wants to be a dancer. The movie "Billy Elliot" is a drama, comedy movie about a kid that wants to be a dancer. The movie follows the main character Billy and we watch as he goes through his journey on his passion for dance and see how his family, especially his father, hates that he is doing ballet and is disappointed. But later on in the movie he comes around to support his son with his passion. the main characters in the story is Billy Elliot who is played by Jamie Bell, Julie Walters as Mrs. Wilkinson, Gary Lewis as Jackie Elliot, Jamie Draven as Tony Elliot and Stuart Wells as Micheal Caffrey. Throughout the movie, Julie Walters and Jamie Bell do an excellent job acting as Mrs. Wilkinson and Billy Elliot were the main reasons as to why I could slug through the beginning of the movie without getting bored or not watching the whole movie. An example of this is when Billy first starts to go to ballet classes which were the most boring parts of the movie. But after that, the movie starts to pick up speed and gets better and better then you start to sympathize with the main character and hope for him to succeed and become a ballet dancer. Throughout the movie, Billy experiences many adversities and problems such as his father forbidding him from going to ballet classes and stopping his dreams and passions. However, he still wants to dance and do ballet. This promotes the theme of overcoming adversities and being resilient as even though there were many walls that prevented Billy from doing ballet, he still wanted to do it and overcame those adversities. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a movie, and is a teen or adult as any younger than that they won't understand the themes and cant read between the lines. This movie is also rated R which would prevent younger people from watching it. I think this movie is really good and you should watch it at least once just to try.
I Think the Swears are the funniest part of this film.
