The Birdcage Reviews
Almost a perfect farce. What a tragic loss re Hackman and Williams. If you can watch a film several times, know exactly what's going to happen but enjoy it just as much every time....
This is one of my top five favorite movies, always guaranteed to make me laugh. It is packed with excellent performances by all of the actors and Gene Hackman in the scene at the end with all of the stars dancing out of the club is unforgettable. I will also stand by my assertion that Hank Azaria was robbed of a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in this film; to this day my true love and I laugh whenever we hear "The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" and visualize Agador kicking his legs while cleaning the apartment. I also liked seeing Williams rein in his usual manic bursts of comedy in exchange for the quiet dignity he has in this role as a club owner wrestling with what is best for his family versus the expectations of the world at that time. It really is a must-see, and it would probably surprise anyone prejudiced against the LGBTQIA+ community as to how family-oriented their family is.
It is the ultimate feel-good movie—farce at its best.
A great remake executed perfectly by its two leads. Robin Williams and Nathan Lane's performances are underscored by fantastic small choices, like Gene Hackman's candy-eating conservative neuroses, which still feel fresh and relevant 30 years on.
Great Mike Nichols comedy with a memorable performance by Robin Williams
Thoroughly underrated part of Robin Williams impressive resume. This is one of very few 90s comedy movies featuring queer characters without the jokes being at their expense. This is clearly for the queer community by the queer community. This is hilarious and deep and easy to get sucked into.
I loved this movie! Hysterical! Well acted!
amazing cast! Robin Williams in an awesome performance.
One of Robin Williams best movies. Fantastic and funny.

One of the most entertaining movie of all time! Anyone who feels down should watch this.
Le Cage aux Folles - the French version - is excellent. The Birdcage is a very good remake / American version. The acting is brilliant, the characters are good and the story is a very good one. It's worth a watch, even solely to see the amazing Robin Williams. It's about two young lovers whose parents are from vastly different worlds, causing chaos when those worlds collide.
There may be dated and stereotypical elements but the good more than outweighs the bad. Nichols' direction is superb while Lane and Williams play off each other brilliantly.
*Shrieks in Albert*
Wonderfully camp, this movie is a joy to watch. This movie tells, sometimes in a ridiculous way, a truly touching story about modern family. Nathan Lane is at the height of his comedic power here and Robbin Williams delivers a surprisingly gentle and empathetic performance as a gay man. Together, their performances together on screen are electric. Both this movie and the original French film certainly deserve their place in queer canon.
A product of its time but there's a lot of innocent & heartfelt fun. The writing is messy & slow in the first act but dramatically tightens up as the plot unfolds. It's silly but carries a good message with lots of laughs.
If u want a great comedy movie this is the one for you. This movie makes me laugh. Robin Williams is amazing as always and Nathan Lane is absolutely hilarious. Those two make a excellent pair. It shows how a family should be supportive no matter what the case is. I love it. Definitely one of my top three favorite comedy movies.
The funniest film I've ever watched brilliant performances
Such a fun film with a wide array of emotions.
