birth/rebirth Reviews

Mar 2, 2025

I should not like this movie. And I do, so very much! Women's struggles about parenthood are by no means any of my concern. A movie has to absolutely be stellar to make the mark. These four women protagonists do. The aloof scientist, the grieving mom, the risen daughter, and the down-on-her-luck wealthy pregnant lady. Wow. What an ensemble. I think everyone should see this at just the right time like I did. At a very heavy crossroads just out of the "free and natural" choices of motherhood. A brilliant, poignant social commentary on the should's and shouldn'ts of life. Watch it!

Creepy, if not realistic.

This thriller illustrates a sick and shocking story about a nurse and a scientist trying to revive and keep alive a girl through experiments. Not recommended for sensitive viewers.

So this is ANOTHER mad scientist movie...As a mother, Celie, makes some shocking choices after the unexpected death of her daughter... With the help of a local mad scientist...Rose Casper...Who has the power to resurrect her daughter from death...The question is...Is it worth it? And this is a fascinating sci-fi story that investigates the ethics of reanimation; and all the real world implications it would have. And it's not stunning sci-fi; but it's more of a grounded "what if" scenario; as food for thought. And in that sense it works.

This movie sucked. Total waste of time. Pointless, slow, and completely underwhelming. Don’t bother with the fake reviews on here. There is no way people actually thought this was a 73% movie.

An updated version of the mad scientist trope and the Frankenstein story with Interesting subject matter that is slow to progress but more dark, twisted, and compelling as it goes.

Two Outstanding Lead Performances Elevate “Frankenstein” Update

A Modern day Frankenstein meets Pet Sematary with a beyond excellent cast, not a dull moment. Perfect horror story.

There is something very special about this movie; the cast, writing and production. Don’t get me wrong, it’s dark AF and may be a bit of a “slow burn” for many people, but it was done really well. You can’t go wrong with Judy Reyes.

Boring , monotonous without a serious climax.

Venture into Birth/Rebirth knowing as little as possible about it if you can and you'll get the full ‘what am I watching?' effect that is missing in a lot of films nowadays. The film is so wonderfully creepy in a David Cronenberg sort of way and whilst the plots are not the same at all, I also got the same vibe that I did when I watched Jen & Sylvia Soska's American Mary a few years ago for the first time. Birth/Rebirth is fantastic, its unsettling, its bizarre, its very unique yet grounded in a reality we believe and is definitely a film that thriller/horror fans should check out. It has a very classic horror feel to it which I also love, the atmosphere that the film surrounds us with works to perfection and that is most definitely enhanced by Composer Ariel Marx who delivers one of the creepiest and unnerving horror film scores that I have heard since Christopher Young's score for 2012's Sinister. Its no secret or revelation that a good music score can enhance or elevate a film up a notch or two, but Ariel's score here is a huge win for Birth/Rebirth. Overall Birth/Rebirth is a great film which fires on all cylinders and there is a lot of great things to say about it, however for me the onscreen standout is Marin Ireland as Rose, who is so damn creepy and unsettling and yet isn't out of place in the world we live in at the moment. Shes certainly not someone Id like as a work colleague that's for sure.

Awful. All build no release. At a couple of points you think yeah now it's gonna start but…. then back to nothing. Impotent, no climax. All drama, no horror. As far as movies go it might have been well done but for a horror film you watch with friends because you want to get scared, no way. I like my horror films to be the kind where you hide your face and yell at the screen for the cast to "get out of there! It's right behind you!" This is not that, ever.

Decent movie, enjoyed. Trailer spoiled a bit to much for my taste.

Great acting, and might be Shudder's best

Ok so I haven't been able to watch the whole thing yet… I keep getting creeped out and having to walk away… the suspense is stressing me out in a good way! I have been emotionally involved in this story, it is a perfect mix of heartbreaking, hopeful, and terrifying.

Solid. Almost perfect length and very thought provoking. Moral questions here, but I think a little more backstory explanation would have helped, but overall I enjoyed this movie.

While it isn't groundbreaking or particularly scary, this body-horror drama is well executed through excellent performances, an unnerving film score, and an uneasy atmosphere (with a touch of ironic humor here and there). It's a disturbing take on a "Frankenstein" premise, where the horror isn't so much about the monster that comes back from the dead and the havoc it will wreak, but the interpersonal drama of the two leads. One is driven by the pursuit of scientific excellence, while the other is in denial of her own grief. The horror ultimately is about the lengths both will go in order to achieve the thing that they're afraid to lose, rather than try to rediscover joy in other aspects of life.

It's not scary but it is gross and if you are squeamish then don't watch. It is a medical horror movie. I would say it's more of a lose your appetite movie than a causes sleeplessness movie. You can watch it before bed but not before dinner.

It doesn't get your attention all the way till the end. I was waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. 2 stars.

Not a typical horror movie but is extremely eerie at times and becomes even moreso as the movie progresses. If your a parent or expecting a child you may find it unnerving and difficult to watch. I did! The creepiness of the film actually makes it scarier than many standard horror flicks. Not something I'd watch again tho, too dark a subject matter for me.
