Black Crab Reviews
No one captures the cold, dark, brooding struggles of the human experience quite like a Swedish film. No one portrays the inauspicious character quite like Noomi Rapace. Don't look for a happy ending here but it's a captivating journey.
I just love to watch Noomi Rapace in all her movies.
This movie was absolutely horrible from beginning to end. I typically LOVE the character who plays Edh, but this was by far the worst film I’ve ever seen her perform. I don’t even write reviews, this is my first after over 30 years of movie watching. But this film was THAT bad; it made me seek a platform to write my review. I had the worst experience watching it. It was bad from beginning to end. The actress who plays Edh needs to be more careful about the roles she accepts. Time for new management? Another role like this and she’s going to ruin her cult appreciation.
Absolutely fantastic movie. Noomi Pace nails her role. Every thing about this movie is unbelievably GOOD!!
If it weren't for the confusing context of civil war, this would just be a damn fine action movie, with a very emotional mother-daughter aspect.
Naomi Rapace is brilliant in everything she does but this was a huge challenge and she did it again! Bravo!
Swedish. Different. I quite liked it. If Bergman made a war movie, this might be it.
Visuals are good, but acting is a bit off. The writing is bad, protagonists make illogical choices considered their personalities, and it's a very predictable story. The viewer doesn't want to root for the main character, that's a no no for me.
1984 style bleak. Makes you shudder to the core. The eery ice skating and Rapace' last statement alone makes this movie worth it. I won't forget this one easily.
A bleak view of the realities of war. Maybe it hits me harder because of my own experiences with a similar war. But nonetheless it is a movie that brings a certain grim nostalgia and somber tone to what modern war entails.
Holy lutefisk! Professional skaters with automatic weapons, how cool is that?
I like Rapace, but this story is weak and ultimately unsatisfying.
Good................
This film for me, was a completely different experience to most of the dross and repetitive stuff out there. The cinematic experience was truly amazing and I can see why it won awards. The rotten tomatoes and general fans reviews seem rotten to me! If you enjoy a movie and it ticks boxes that don't often get ticked, it deserves credit. This film did that and the ambiance and music was also an incredible piece of movie magic. If you genuinely can sit through this and not enjoy it, I think you have a problem. Don't trust rotten tomatoes reviews- that gave The Chestnut man 100% and this barely 50%! Madness.
Unfortunately I watched it w English overdub which I suspect robbed the experience of some more nuanced dialogue. The version I experienced induced quite a bit of eye/ball rolling at regular intervals (some dialogue was simply cringeworthy ). The plot left nil to the imagination but the effects were good.
Very underrated film , I mean , lets face it , Noomi Rapace iis believable in any movie she does. Its tense and keeps you hooked til the end . Seen much worse hollywood films with higher ratings.
Watched on Netflix and it was just awful but I watched to the end cause I like to finish something I start. To whoever reads this, avoid this at all costs!
This movie answers the age old question: How little backstory is too little? This movie. Apparently there was an apocalyptic war. Who started it? Dont know. Who's fighting it and why? Dont care. All you apparently need to know is that there are some soldiers transporting a package. And spoiler alert, they find out what is in it, and immediately recognize what it is and its function. How? Shut up and stop asking questions. Overall the action sequences and tension are nice, but it's hard to care at all about a movie that can't be bothered to tell it's own story.
Oh my god, why was this movie ever made? Who the hell read this script and decided to fund this? Bad story. Tedious and boring. The director tortures the viewer with the slowest most dramatic scenes, despite them being predictable. Like when someone spends half a minute stuttering on the last two words of a sentence and you already know what they're going to say.. The lead character is completely drab and unlikable. I couldn't stand her and actively rooted for her death throughout the entire movie. Acting was so cringe inducingly over dramatic. Why are we supposed to like her? Because she lost her daughter? I don't care.. Why should I care? They spent two minutes in the beginning of the movie, showcasing her overly dramatic acting just to impose the plot device for which the entire movie relies on: Missing daughter=do anything to be reunited=the potential destruction of humanity.. Yeah, sure. Destroying humanity is all well and good until you find out your daughter isn't at the place you're going.. Then it's evil and must be stopped.. It's stupid. Protagonist is a selfish and illogical nutcase. But this is the typical fare we get from Netflix these days. The "strong female lead" formula is getting old.. The best part of the entire movie was the ending. God was that satisfying.. But they could've just had her do it at the beginning and spared us this slog of a time.
Dire One of those "it will get better as it develops" films It doesn't it's borderline dull with a pretty dull script dull sections that make you groan all in all its just dull
