Black Hawk Down Reviews
I’ve read the book and this is pretty faithful to it. Extremely tough situation for the marines and Delta Force to be in. Some poor decisions and needless deaths, but the action is non-stop. Acting was also top notch. The worst thing for me was the betrayal by President Clinton after the battle by pulling them all out and making the soldiers’ deaths meaningless, but that is typical of the States in foreign wars.
I think this is a good movie but i don't understand one thing. I don't understand how the soldiers got help so quickly. The soldiers are fighting in Somalia (Africa), how did they get help so quickly from a stadium in Pakistan (Asia)? They are 3700km away.
Great depiction of combat. Did take some liberties with the script and was not as accurate as the book. If they made it truly accurate to the book and took in the Somali perspective it would be in the GOAT conversation.
One of the greatest films/war films of all-time. The Battle of Mogadishu is one of the most notorious battles in U.S. Military history. Rangers lead the way!
Well done in every regard. Brings the horrors of war home and shows the futility of our presence in Somalia.
This movie aged incredibly well (production wise). The cast in this movie was stacked and overall the acting was quite good. I’m not entirely sure the portrayal of elite soldiers at some moments was entire accurate but I’m no expert and it didn’t really harm the plot. The movie did get a bit slow at times and it was more drama over action, but it felt like a realistic portrayal of a spec ops mission and invested the viewer. The cinematography was beautiful with the shots and lighting of the scenes really adding to the feel and suspense of the movie. Not to mention the sound effects and music were excellently produced and worked very well with the movie. Overall, this movie wasn’t really one to leave the viewer with questions or a sense of confusion(no big plot twists) but more just with a sense of like “wow that was a really good movie”. Def would recommend great watch, not too heavy but not too mindless either and it was great to see Ewan McGregor trying to suppress his accent lmao.
Not even close to the book. How many folk on here know that it was the same team that took down Pablo Escobar? Go Read it.
Acting 8/10 Story: 8/10 Action scenes : 9/10 Special effects : 9/10
This is my favorite movie of all time. It’s fairly accurate to the real life event, consists of amazing action that has held up over the past couple decades. The most underrated quality of this movie is the sound and music, it really pulls the cinematography together, outstanding movie!
A great movie, plenty of action packed scenes, very realistic, your typical war film with a little sprinkle of emotion. Worth a watch.
Quite emotionally powerful as a film, quite boring and certainly with an amazing soundtrack
By far my all-time favorite modern war movie. Instead of portraying US soldiers as an invincible force bringing peace with manifest destiny like many Hollywood blockbusters do, this movie presents the volatility and brutality of ground combat in detail. One thing though, when I first watched this movie, I automatically saw the whole situation from the lens of protagonists and unconsciously rooted for them over menacing local residents. Now think of it, those unkempt and intimidating "ragtags" likely viewed US soldiers as invaders. The contrast of US soldiers leisurely barbecuing in their barracks at the beginning of this movie and the sight of malnourished local child soldiers in cramped huts is ... striking. It really depends on where you stand. Great movie nevertheless.
what a loaded cast. Great action scenes. Had you hooked till the last minute
The best war movie ever created. And no it's not Saving Private Ryan.
The feeling of battle in this is insane.
War movies are always hit and miss. Generally, there's an audience for these types of movies, but opinions can range the gambit from, amazing to completely fictional. One always has to have a suspension of disbelief when watching a movie based on true events or focused on specific career paths, though some require a little more... imagination. As is often the case, this movie has been referred to by many as "fictional." Yet despite that label, the movie is relatively beloved anyways. After rewatching the movie, I can see the reasoning for both. On the one hand, the movie seems to be exceptionally stylized and less worried about historical accuracy, while on the other hand, this choice seems to be intentional, opting to glorify the fog of war as a means to speak to greater humanitarian themes. Watching this movie almost feels like a test of endurance as the action scenes are relentless and intentionally brutal. An interesting choice by the creators was to make the enemy forces feel "faceless," by intentionally casting actors in roles that shared similar physical features. The enemy forces were also purposely given lines in a foreign language without (or minimal) subtitles that only served to dehumanize those characters and heighten the surreal, otherworldly nature of the scenes. The enemies began to feel more like a force of nature rather than individual combatants with personal goals and desires. At times, it felt like I was watching a zombie movie rather than a war movie, especially during a pivital scene when the enemies swarmed the downed helicopter.
An absolutely brilliant film. Unforgettable.
A war film with 2 hours of endless shooting and unnecessary gruesome shots, but with little to zero character development. Couldn't even distinguish the characters midway through the movie cuz there were way too many
Once again the Americans stuck their noses where it stinks. Don't know if it is due to the country being so much in debt that the only way to circulate dollars, is to get involved in other countries' affairs. In the meantime back at the ranch, America is falling apart. Mass shootings, drug related voilence, unneccassary voilence against black people and the list goes on and on and on. Maybe the problem is with testosterone. Or maybe arrogance....who know!!!!
