Blood Reviews
This was a surprisingly fun—fresh—take on vampirism that reminded me of Little Shop of Horrors in a few moments. The acting is top notch for this sort of flick. Is it scary? Not so much, but movies don't scare me, so that isn't why I enjoy them. It's more of a psychological horror/drama exploring the reaches of a mother's love.
What caused the virus? Where did the virus come from? Was it man made ?
Loved this movie from start to finish. The acting was phenomenal and if you think otherwise you clearly have a desensitization issue. This was a fresh spin on a film about vampirism which honestly helped to clear expectations because it starts off unclear which direction it will go. I honestly don't understand all the hate about how it ends when there are far more block busters that leave you guessing. Have we forgotten that movies with endings that you must interpret for yourself exist? Oh, btw there's a mid credit scene. Would leave an excellent opening for a sequel. I know I would enjoy one
You can guess what's coming next but only The Others and Sixth Sense have succeeded in maintaining the mystery. This is a solid horror. Good cinematography adds to the sinister feel. Michelle Monaghan is skilled in the lead role. The closest movie I would associate it with is Pet Cemetery (the original, obviously).
I want to like Blood more, but it's got some issues; like what is the tree all about, anyway? Good to see Skeet back on the screen.
so good, we need more stories like this.
This movie was watchable, the last 20 mins where the best.
With the tremendous performance by Michelle Monaghan this movie really takes off. The tone of visuals are excellent for the story so is the location and scenery. Good intelligent use of visual effects. Great cinematography capturing the emotions carefully and often distracting to induce tension. Clever usage of sound effects the buzzing of flies for example is absolutely clever in picturing how plagued the family is. The movie never derailed from it's tracks and doesn't try to pack too much to it's run time. It's a well written and well made movie. Blood brings out many emotions and connects to the audience in the right way.
Blood is a great horror movie with very Stephen King style of story-telling and the movie is just one big build-up until the very end that gets you invested into this movie as this little boy gets bit by a rabid dog and the disease that infected him, makes the boy have this hunger for human blood. The story gets really real once they get into the themes of how much a mother is willing to go for their child and what they are willing to do. Michelle Monaghan as the mother is the perfect casting, and the only reason I know of this movie is because of Skeet Ulrich's role in which he has such a great and intense dynamic with Monaghan as divorced parents with each having passion and care for their kids. The two child actors in this movie were also awesome in their roles as they have this brother and sister dynamic similar to the kids in Spy Kids. The story in itself is pretty generic but the way it was told, and the way it's enhanced with the performances and different turns the story takes, it all just makes the ending conclusion more devastating and heartfelt. Overall, Blood is a great horror mystery with suspense and awesome performances from the cast. I enjoy it a lot when movies are able to take a generic plot and enhance the story further and this movie does just that. B-.
Loved it! The story was insane and unique but the acting was so amazing I bought into it. The characters were well developed, the pacing was great, I have zero criticisms on this one. People seeking a "vampire movie" will be disappointed, because it's not that, but for a an off-the-beaten-path, well done horror movie, BLOOD is the best!
If you're into vampire stuff nonsense I guess it might do. Despite a good lead actress, even she fails to save this idiotic story 🤦♂️ Save your time, energy and frustration. It's a very silly if not dumb movie. Next!!!
A single woman moves back to her family farmhouse to start a new life with her two children. The young boy falls ill with a mysterious illness after being bitten by his own dog, developing a voracious appetite for blood. The mother is willing to break all ethical barriers to keep her son alive. "Blood" presents us with an unusual vampire story and controversial survival choices, compelling viewers to debate their own ethical standards.
Meh, it is an okay horror movie. Probably worth a second watch at some point later down the line. However, my first viewing was complacent because the vibe of the story felt like well-worn horror tropes seen time and again in movies gone by.
meh; this was alright. not a bad cast, but some of the dialog seemed like it was written for a high school play or something. it's not great. but overall not a bad watch.
This was some of the most poorly written nonsense I've seen in a while. Conversations are often awkward and clunky. The nurse lacks basic anatomical knowledge. The few potentially interesting points are ignored and the focus is, instead, left on fairly uninteresting characters. All in all, this had some interesting ideas and COULD have been something worth watching if it had been in the right hands. There was one point where I think I was supposed to be on edge but I was just laughing hysterically at how ridiculous it was. It wasn't scary. It wasn't a good character study. It wasn't a terribly unique story. It wasn't worth watching.
First thing to know going into this one is that it will require you to suspend your disbelief to a significant degree. After contracting an unknown illness from a dog bite, Michelle discovers that her son now requires a diet strictly of blood in order to remain healthy and alive. Here’s where the disbelief comes in. Instead of alerting the doctor’s to her son’s obvious requirement for blood to stay alive, she keeps it a secret and begins to steal blood from the hospital’s supply, until they inevitably notice a large amount missing and restrict her and other nurses from access to it. You would think that at this point she would surely bring her son’s condition to the attention of doctors, but no. Instead, she buys and slaughters all the pet rabbits she can, which isn’t enough, then drains her own body of a dangerous amount of blood, and then resorts to kidnapping and harvesting blood from one of her terminal cancer patients. The entire movie is absurd, when the best and most obvious solution the entire time was to simply notify her son’s doctors of his condition, at which point they would’ve certainly attended to his needs for blood while working on an actual treatment to resolve the issue. Instead, you have to choose to believe that this mother has no other choice but to do the insane, that doctors would single-out and deny her son’s need for blood from all other cases simply because he needs to consume it rather than receive it via IV. The premise is completely insane, but then again, without it, you would probably have a pretty bland and boring movie. So aside from the terrible far-out storyline, it’s a fairly good movie.
O filme tem ritmo lento como vários elementos do horror psicológico. Além de ser um drama interessante, ele trás a nós uma pulga atrás da orelha, o que causou tudo aquilo? O garoto está morto mesmo? O que tinha na árvore? A mãe dele ficará normal? Este filme é claramente uma revolução aceitável do vampiro clássico que graças a Deus não brilha no sol.
What's really sad is that this movie had a lot of potential. It's an interesting idea. But the direction, the script, the acting, and the plot just did not live up to the idea. That really sums it up. Great idea, interesting story - - just doesn't suck you in (pun intended).
I hate to say it but this is no different than 'Let the Right One In.' Like almost identical in terms of a child having a 'disorder' that makes them require blood to live a normal life. So the plot is all about how to manage the fact that your child needs blood without allowing them to kill humans to get it. And the fact that Hollywood continues to chase its own tail constantly, stealing ideas, lifting concepts from other, more creative movies...they might as well go full AI at this point and let a computer write the stories. Honestly, at least we might get a few new concepts once in a while. These constantly recycled ideas are getting old and it seems like it just keeps getting worse.
I enjoyed this movie, Michelle is such a good actress. The movie was unique and worth the buy. Looks like there may be a sequel based on the ending.
