Blue Bayou Reviews

Dec 24, 2024

This was an amazing movie and unique take that pulls on heartstrings. The juxtaposition of cultures hits home. Justin and all the actors did an incredible job in their performance. The dramatic scenes and artistic direction made the story heartfelt, compelling, and bring attention the effects of our policies.

One of the most beautiful powerful films of this generation. From start to finish the cinematography, acting and storyline is bold, creative and moving. One of my most favourite films in a long time.

Though the movie style is one that I’m not typically used too, I really enjoyed this movie. It’s a tear jerker not only because of the movie but also because the issues they face are issues that people face in America right now. Well worth the watch.

Dramatic, touching movie about a mistreated Asian adoptee. Top notch acting and very moving movie. Cried my eyes out!

This movie is so necessary. The United States government needs to stop the deportations now. Unfair, unfeeling and compassionless. The movie brilliantly conveys this necessity.

This drama opened my eyes to a terrible truth: despite being adopted, 50K Americans face deportation. The plot isn't perfect, but the cinematography is beautiful and the acting very well done.

Actually made me tear up a bit at the end! Would definitely recommend.

Heart wrenching. Great acting by all, especially the main character and little girl. Unbelievable that the US would deport citizens that have lived there all their lives due to a muck up in their admin, yet let new illegals pour in. The ones that have lived there 30-40 years believing they were officially adopted, have to go to a country they don't know because a US form technicality was missed by the US adoptive parents. Where is the logic, reason and common sense??

I was enjoying this film but the over the top melodramatic ending left me really annoyed

It's a perfect movie. It's a beautiful movie. It's a sad movie. It's a perfectly beautiful and sad movie. It's a must watch.

Overall, this is a solid drama film and easily one of the best films I've seen this year. It's a touching and gripping story that truly broke me as it focused on family, overcoming one's past and the heartbreaking topic of deportation. Blue Bayou is filled with tremendous and highly believable performances from both Justin Chon and Alicia Vikander.  Also serving as a director, Justin Chon has adored capturing many wonderful moments of tension and character's emotions, all of which truly touched my heart. There's very little I can say negative about a film like this, and it certainly comes highly recommended for those seeking a new drama film.

Strong acting but the script doesn't live up to it's good intentions.

I love everything about this film; the complexity of the characters, the layered storyline, and the script that is filled with spaces just for the actors' talent to fill. This is amazing filmmaking, and so tragic that it is a true story for many citizens of this country. This is the type of film I dream about making, and I'm just bold enough to think I can one day do the same.

A gem of a movie. Flawless cast and directing. Must watch.

This is a decent character based drama but it is somewhat predictable, knowing the general story beforehand. I did think the protagonist (Antonio LeBlanc) seemed a decent likeable guy, which certainly helps and its not hard to feel frustrated for him when he clearly comes across discrimination based on his ethnicity (the obligatory potential employer asking him where he comes from - not the area he lives in but where he originally came from etc.). The depiction of his family life is decent but it felt a bit too much like a Hallmark movie by the end. There are numerous films that cover the same issues and its not a bad film, certainly, but it missed something - I'm not sure I could explain precisely what but its nearly quite good but just not quite. I did think it was interesting coming across the ICE person - being British, I wasn't aware of that particular acronym and its curious that the employee appears to be a semi-decent type, perhaps but yeah...its not quite as good as film as it maybe could have been. The cheesiness frustrated me somehow. No, I wouldn't particularly recommend this film as such.

They don't hold back. The movie hurts and i went in not knowing what I was getting into. The movie clearly has a view point but it is portrait of is perfect and the acting is phenomenal. I don't know that I'd ever watch it again but that's more because it was incredibly painful to watch and for no lack of being a movie you should watch. It forced me to dig deeper into a area I never knew about and we'll I cried a lot like way to much to have watched this in the theater I was a hot mess to say the least.

If you didn't bawl your eyes out at the very ending alone, you are soulless.
