Blue Crush Reviews
The cinematography is spectacular -- viewers are placed on top of, in the middle of, and under the waves -- but the story is a narrative wipeout almost from the start.

If you’re into surfing, gorgeous landscapes and need some low-brow mush to watch on a cosy weekend, Blue Crush fits the bill perfectly.

Story wise Blue Crush falls flat when it is on land, but the surfing scenes are spectacular.

Something just feels right about a girl-power movie in which the football players are the spoiled, clueless ones and the rough-around-the-edges surfer girls look far more world-weary and tough.

Stockwell never manages to connect the water footage to the story, to make the waves a character or a metaphor for what's happening on land - except in the sense that this film is never wetter than when it gets out of the ocean and back to the plot.

Affable yet forgettable...

Tough yet tender surfer heroine story.

Sporting a cast of up-and-coming actresses, John Stockwell's surfing flick offers up a slice of entertainment that acknowledges its roots and whose throw away pleasures arrive with no guilt.

When the movie attempts to tell a story on land, you might want to bring along a flashlight and a magazine.

Proves to indeed be the formulaic bore it appears to be, however nicely dressed up (or undressed, depending on one's perspective) it is.

Stockwell has made half of a good movie. Now he needs to figure out how to craft a film with words worthy of the beauty of its images.

Apesar de um ou outro dilogo se render ao clich do "vena-seus-medos!", o filme bem realizado, conta com protagonistas carismticas e transforma o surfe em um esporte com incrvel apelo cinematogrfico.

Surfing is not a particularly complex thing to figure out from the outside, but here the photography and editing do well to demonstrate the beauty of how it all looks while moving with a momentum that wraps us up in the physical drama.

The target audience should go home wanting a surfboard for Christmas.

Surfing is extreme sport, but only so-so cinema. When you've seen one wave, you've seen them all: so it soon looks. All the babes who do the surfing in John Stockwell's youth-cult romance also come off an assembly line of blonde bimbos.
