Body at Brighton Rock Reviews
By no means is Body at Brighton Rock a terrible film, it's just not a very remarkable one. Horror is more than just loud noises and dead bodies.

It’s got its perks, but the film ultimately becomes as lost as its heroine the further into the story it gets.

In a traditional horror movie, she would get picked off in seconds. In the post-Buffy era, you may expect to watch her become a realistic bad ass as she becomes more self-possessed and skilled. We get neither and are poorer for it.

Body at Brighton Rock is a great psychological thriller that reminds us what our real enemy is.

Fontes is convincing and likable as the ditzy lost park ranger and that was a good enough reason for me to enjoy it.

Body at Brighton Rock is a good film, that falls just shy of greatness.

Body at Brighton Rock has solid performances and directing, but loses its intensity as it becomes too reliant on jump/noise scares.

The nostalgia factor and the unique tone will keep viewers invested in Wendy's lonesome, frightening journey.

Body at Brighton Rock is a insidiously sinister piece of psychological horror.

While it didn't completely work for me, I think Roxanne Benjamin continues to be a fantastic new voice in horror and I'm excited to see what she does next.

Roxanne Benjamin's protagonist Wendy has to face the ugly world in all its brutality, fending off the elements, animals, and, maybe most importantly, man.

The score, cinematography, and general premise are all good reasons to seek this out and enjoy it when you can. However, couch your expectations with the understanding that this is not a spear-sharp thriller.

Despite its many flaws and shortcomings, The Body At Brighton Rock is enjoyable when taken as a cheap comedy with some high tension moments.

Body at Brighton Rock is the kind of movie that sucks one in immediately, only to gradually let them down at the slow realization that it isn't going anywhere new or exciting.
| Original Score: 5/10 | May 3, 2019
Body at Brighton Rock is a fantastic debut for Roxanne Benjamin. It boasts a strong performance from Fontes and an anxiety-inducing premise.

The most pleasing part about Benjamin's film debut is the material isn't treated as a hallowed story; this a horror film that's looking to have fun with minimalism.

If you're going to write a film in which the audience is alone with the protagonist for the majority of the run-time, you have give us a reason to invest that time and unfortunately, it's just not here.

A thriller with a strong female voice is always a cause for celebration.

Benjamin has a great concept, but she's hamstrung by an underwhelming cast and her own indecisiveness with respect to tone.

A "campy" camp thriller.
