Gave it more than a fair shot and did not get even a smile

A coming of age story that follows two young girls who need to venture out of their comfort zone and be street smart rather than just booksmart.

I guess dorks have gotten much dorkier since I was in high school.......or this movie isn't close to an actual depiction of high school kids of the day. It is trying too hard, and just comes off as phony. I don't give a flying f____ about anyone in this movie. The "comedy" is SO LACKING. Waste of time. It feels like this thing could've been written by, directed by, and starring Lena Dunham....and, Lord knows, we've all had more than enough of her and her "unique perspective". Hard pass.

Solid, decently funny coming of age story.

Literally the worst comedy movie I have ever seen, if not the worst movie period. I am late to reviewing this movie but even now 5+ years later the movie still plagues my mind as I have never been so incredulous seeing such a high critic review score on a movie so bad. Like are you serious? This movie got a higher critic score than the Shawshank Redemption? Who are we kidding here? I saw this movie in theaters and walked out 80% of the way through. The only feeling I can describe from the experience is pain. Painfully awkward, unoriginal, and unfunny. Cringe. So much cringe. I have never walked out of a movie that I paid to see in theaters… and I wasn’t the only one.

if one movie can encapsulate the feeling of being a straight A student all your academic life until high school and not having the recognition you deserve for all the years of hard work you’ve put into school once you’re headed towards university, this movie is the one! this one hit hard for me, as i was identified by both molly and amy in many different ways! it was so incredible, with actors that look like teenagers and filmed in such a beautiful way. can’t believe i didn’t watch this one sooner. in the end, jocks may come and go in many different ways, but being a high school booksmart will forever be a crucial part of your life!

Worse movie ever. It’s such a waste of time. It’s supposed to be a female version of Superbad. It’s not. It’s not funny. It’s dry. Very dry. No humor at all. I didn’t laugh once. They seemed to be super sarcastic, very annoying. I wouldn’t recommend nor watch again.

It's funny and has lots of unique and wild ideas.

I thought that this movie was the most unrealistic depiction of High School I've ever seen. In fact I think that Disney's "Sky High" is a more realistic depiction of Highschool. In this movie everyone in this school is 1. Going to College. 2. Going to GREAT colleges. 3. The most tolerant person I've ever seen, oh and btw, they're in highschool. This movie just overall gives the feel that it is written, directed, and stars people who come from an insane amount of privilege who have no idea what an actual highschool experience is like. It gives me the same feeling of watching Mila Kunis in "Bad Moms" desperately trying to portray an "average mom". I felt like the movie cared more about showing what they WANT young adult life to be as opposed to what that life is ACTUALLY like. Being different in highschool is rarely celebrated, and to act like everyone is just automatically okay with everyone's lifestyle choices is awesome to imagine but is hardly the case. Not one time was anything in this movie remotely relatable, and it even takes a touching heart warming ending, and just makes a joke out of it, leaving no real time in the movie to even try and find some sort of emotional relatability at all. Overall it just seemed like Wilde was trying to not upset anyone and take zero risk.

Just AWFUL I’m Gen X my child is Gen Z both gave it a huge thumbs down.

One of my favorite typical high school movies that is not cringe.

This was a pretty good movie. Good cast, good acting, easy story, not a new storyline but it’s been done well. Plenty of laughs. Worth the watch.

Amazing movie. Hilarious and really captures a moment of youth that I find very relatable.

Kudos to anyone who can sit through this molding piece of garbage. Everything about this movie is overwhelmingly bad. I can't even rationalize the positive reviews. I put up a half star only because Billie Lourd's turn as the "out there" chick who keeps turning up EVERYWHERE is somewhat amusing.

Imagine the cult movie After Hours, but with teens in it. Good fun, and I think representative of modern society.

With impressive chemistry from the two co-leads, we also watch how their friendship can be both a strength and a hinderance with witty and emotional storytelling!

Fallowing in the footsteps of epic high school party movies Book Smart doesn't disappoint. A modern day classic.
