Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan Reviews
This movie has some absolutely hysterical moments that I will probably never forget, but also a lot of cringeworthy moments that were hard to watch. Despite the 3.5 star rating, I highly recommend this movie for anyone just looking for a good time. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and there is something for everyone (some gross humor, some offensive humor, some witty humor, some cringe humor - depending on the type of comedy you like, the jokes may or may not land). Despite what some may say, it’s not all just grotesque comedy - there are some genuinely hysterical moments that come from well thought out jokes. Overall, it’s just a fun movie that you don’t have to think too hard about and the time will fly by as you watch it.
This movie will make you squirm nonstop, and is also hilariously funny -- if not taken too seriously.
Very funny movie and entertains you through out the whole movie.
I've avoided this film for nearly 20 years because it's not really my thing - or so I assumed. But a quiet evening led me to its door and I gave it my best shot. There are things I admired - as I expected, Sacha Baron Cohen's performance is remarkable in its discipline, bravery and commitment. There are a couple of extraordinary sequences which hit the nail on the head, some of it genuinely perceptive as well as funny. But for my taste it too often feels like it may be punching down, a comedy it's hard to forgive; alongside that you're never quite sure who the makers are really laughing at, and I'
A hilarious movie for its time. You can tell just how much Sasha loved playing this role. I can't blame him, it looks like a lot of fun! Its just as fun for me to watch, as it was for him to perform I suspect!
The funniest movie I have ever seen.
A very funny satire of Bush-Era American politics that weaponizes shock-humor not only from Sacha Baron Cohen's antics, but just as easily with the unsuspecting public’s reactions that can often match or even exceed the fictional Borat's bigotry & ignorance. So many quotable lines and hilarious scenarios that will never leave my brain.
Wasn't as funny as I remembered it being 15 years ago when I was younger, but it still got a fair few laughs out of me.
Can't stop my tears while laughing. This movie is extremely funny.
The Central Asia region is incredibly diverse and complex. As someone born in Kazakhstan and now living in the U.S., I can't help but wonder if the people I interact with hold any preconceived beliefs and stereotypes based solely on their and perception n to this film. While I understand that the movie takes a satirical approach to immigrants and cultural differences, I personally feel that its humor may not have aged well. But again. It is a review and a personal opinion at the end of the day, and I'm not here to change your minds or beliefs. Just here to share!
Overwhelmingly hilarious, led to perfection by Sacha Baron Cohen. It shines the brightest when it uses its satire to call out real people’s real, abhorrent behavior. It feels questionable when you witness seemingly “good” people being harassed by this weirdo. Is it offensive? Yup. But if it didn’t go “too far”, it wouldn’t have gone far enough. It makes you step back and reflect on why you laugh at certain situations, while others make you cringe or stare in awed silence. This film makes no claim as to where the line is, but it certainly crosses it (and it’s worth noting that, wherever the line used to be in 2006, it has certainly moved since then). It has rightfully earned its place in cultural relevance and has a surprising amount to say about American culture, in between the egregiously offensive jokes.
Undoubtably ground-breaking. I guess your rating depends on how comfortable you are with other people being humiliated, even when they deserve it
The best comedy of all time, I have no words… 10/10
I think this movie is more interesting as an analysis on satire of America as opposed to watching it all the way through. Some of the situations are definitely uncomfortable, and I just couldn't get on board with that knowing it was staged. It's also rather offensive, which I know is to make a point, but I didn't want to watch that nonetheless.
funny af..enough said..
Very funny but offensive and some scenes are a bit disturbing. I really enjoyed the jokes and plot Sacha Baron Cohen is hilarious 😂😂😂. I'm Jewish and I'm not offended
Majestic, Emotional, Exquisite. You don't like? You too soft?
Intensely real in a way that's not possible anymore. Lots of fun.
fun as hell, the humor is very assertive most of the time. Sasha cohen is amazing!!!
very funny satire man, but this movie would also not fly today
