Breaking Reviews
John Boyega's performance here was amazing. The rest of the movie could have been delivered better. It was actually a little bit boring.
Pretty much all down to JB, this has periods that are truly engaging, but it lacks real drive and motivation, and so falls short on delivering any suspense, or empathy with the main character (and therefore any of the other characters)... A shame in many ways, especially as this is a true story
This movie is straight trash. Wasted two hours of my night. SMH
Very good emotional movie.
This was truly good and I would definitely watch it again.
A weak imitation of John Q, absolutely forgettable. John Boyega tries to emulate Denzel Washington, but the script gives him little to work with, leaving the supporting characters hollow and disconnected. Moreover, the motivations behind the actions are merely sketched out, resulting in a film that lacks real emotional impact.
More of a drama than action movie. I guess the intention is to set focus on the poor treatment some veterans receive. Based on on true story.
Movie had a slow start towards the end it started to get really intense. The movie overall is really sad and eye opening
Based on a true story, the screenplay is really rather bland. Boyega did his best Denzel impression, but unfortunately Beharie overacted her role and broke immersion pretty badly. Her defiant character is too much and doesn't feel like how a real person would emote. Leyva, in contrast, captured her vulnerability.
Based on a tragically unnecessary true event, Breaking is not a feel-good movie. But it also didn't feel like a waste of time, as it shone the spotlight on a long-standing issue with the U.S. government and the far too many times it lets its veterans down, driving many of them to take desperate measures such as suicide, among other things. One of those "other things" is demonstrated in this film as it tells the story of the 2017 bank hostage event carried out by a former Marine Corps veteran, Brian Brown-Easley, who is in financial trouble (due to the VA not carrying through with assistance) and decides to rob a bank. But it's not a typical bank robbery. He just wants the VA to deliver to him what they owe. You can imagine the rest of the story. This is equal parts infuriating and heartbreaking. John Boyega pulls off a solid performance here, as always, and it was bittersweet to see Michael Kenneth Williams in what was one of his final roles. Recommended. Progetto dalle solide basi e molto potente come messaggio.
The worst thing about this movie is that, despite it’s message, the VA still won’t have to be accountable for anything.
As the wife of a disabled retired Veteran, this movie really hit home for me and brought tears to my eyes. It truly speaks to the broken VA system. My husband has been fighting for over a decade for some of the benefits he should be entitled to. The first time he was denied the VA said they needed his medical records, he provided those. The second time he was denied the VA said they needed proof that he had been in combat and wanted him to obtain letters from his former unit, he's been retired for over 12 years! The government knows he was in combat, they sent him there. My mother lost her husband a couple of years ago and he was a Vietnam era Vet. They made her jump through hoops when he passed away. These soldiers put their lives on the line for this country, but this country does not take care of our Vets the way the Vets take care of this country, protecting, serving and putting their lives on the line. The fact that it turned out the VA made the mistake, was even more heart wrenching. This movie is a must-see for anyone with family or friends who are Vets and it should be used as a training video for the VA. The end of the movie indicated Bryan still had not received his money, despite the fact that it was determined VA made the mistake. When will the government start holding the VA accountable for its on-going failure to protect and serve our Vets the way our Vets have protected and served this country. This movie was phenomenal, and John Boyega deserves an Oscar for his performance.
The acting was great I definitely cried a lot during the movie. It was hear clenching!
I think I cried during the entire movie, it's absolutely heartbreaking. Watching the emotional break of each of the characters was fascinating on its own but especially Lance. I recommend watching this 100%.
Truly heart wrenching and eye opening. Must watch. Brilliant performance from Boyega, Williams, Beharie and Leyva. It's a devastating portrayal of the sad reality and injustice that we live in and amongst- purposeful bureaucratic negligence.
Inspired by a true story John Boyega stars as a discharged Marine veteran Brian Easley co-starring next to Nichole Behari, Connie Britton, and Michael K. Williams In 2017 his disability check was stolen from him Now he's holding up a Wells Fargo bank hostage threatening to blow himself and everyone in it Unless his demands are met garnering the attention of the media and the authorities to get his message across The movie truly is this generation's 'Dog Day Afternoon' which starred Al Pacino but takes a jab at modern politics with today's struggles veterans have to go through Director Damaris Corbin has pulled compelling performances from Boyega, Beharie, Britton and Williams, which is riveting The film really takes its time at the beginning which kinda diffuses the tension a lot Acts more like a 1970s stage play then a pulse-pounding thriller I did find it challenging to stay awake and invested Boyega's performance does shine though being a man that can be a lost soul in this nation of ours Anyone can suffer real struggles like Brian and there comes a point where in our lives we break to the point of desperation and hostility This prolly would've been more fitting for television
Don't waste yr time!
Wow who makes these dumb time wasting movies and seriously who is giving it 5 stars unless it is paid promo did you sit through this nonsense?
This film connected with me thanks to a strong performance from John Boyega. The department of Veteran Affairs is embroiled in red tape and it ruins lives. A cautionary tale that is well drawn with a fabulous cast that includes the great Michael K. Williams in his second to last film. Based on a true story that connects the VA and how the police deal with people of color. Final Score: 8.7/10
