Bridget Jones's Baby Reviews
Love! This series is great.
Definitely an upgrade from the second movie. Jacks character brings a breath of fresh air to this trilogy. Very funny and enjoyable. Tim Treakle
Definetly the funniest and my favourite of the trilogy, I’m watching the new one tonight and I’m very excited.
My personal favourite out of the (current) three movies. It makes my stomach burn with the effort of laughing from Bridget's misfortunes and the chemistry between the cast is comparable to the work of a master chemist. The extras at the glastonbury festival scene looked like they were genuinely enjoying themselves, Renée Zellweger truly looked as though she was in agony during the birth scene and the presentation scene nearly made my head burst from laughing so much.
The third installment offers a warm reunion, but it’s missing the silly, stumbling Bridget and her scene-stealing crew, who have settled down and lost the playful energy that once defined them.
'Bridget Jones’s Baby' is a good sequel, a much better movie than the 2004 follow-up without a doubt. This one has an actual plot, for one, and is a much more rounded effort - the ending is rather cute too. Despite being the longest entry of the trilogy, this is paced well. Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth reprise well, while Patrick Dempsey is a good addition. The films merges the new characters with the old (minus one obvious absentee) positively, e.g. Sarah Solemani is one of the better supports from any of the three flicks. The musician cameo is amusing too. You have to wonder where they are going to go with 2025's 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy', kinda mad they've managed to create four of these to be honest - two (one?) would've sufficed. Still, this 2016 release is, all in all, a good one; if still narrowly shy of the original, naturally.
**Bridget Jones’s Baby – A Predictable Yet Cozy Return** (★★★½) I’ll be honest—I *hated* this film the first time I saw it. But on a rewatch? I actually really enjoyed it. It’s classic Bridget: awkward, hilarious, and full of chaotic charm. The humor is exactly what we expect from the franchise, and seeing most of the original cast return felt like a warm hug. That said, I *did* miss Hugh Grant—Patrick Dempsey is great, but the dynamic just isn’t the same. The rivalry and over-the-top fight scene we usually get? Sadly absent. The plot? Completely predictable and ridiculously cheesy. But you know what? That’s kind of the point. It’s comforting, like a favorite rom-com you can curl up with. If you liked *The Edge of Reason*, this sits at about the same level. Not perfect, but thoroughly enjoyable. Now, with a fourth film coming in two weeks, I’m very curious to see where Bridget’s chaos takes us next!
Mama Mia without the music, plot, script, acting, etc.
A woman centered, positive comedy. So rare in this climate. Why are people so hard on a sincere, perhaps flawed film? I say good for a night’s viewing, and thumbs up for Emma Thompson’s hilarious ob-gyn. Worth watching for that performance alone. Colin Firth is great as usual. Not forgetting the wonderful Renee!
Well, it only went downhill after the first book, why would the movies be any different? What makes the movie even worse, is that Patrick Dempsey doesn't hold a candle to Colin Firth. Bridget was so charming in the first book, a lovable mess, and has since become the personification of "cringe". I'm sure there are people who enjoy watching someone humiliate themselves again and again, but when it is the story's only asset, it's simply not enough. I guess we all know, this movie would have never been made, if it had been the first of a series, it survives on legacy alone. That's just lazy.
A wonderful conclusion to a brilliant trio of films. I love how it ends with everyone happy no matter the outcome, and it truly fits the story perfectly. Overall the acting, story & message is beautiful.
This was such an enjoyable movie with many quirky situations and laughs. It's definitely worth the watch.
It's my favourite of the franchise, I don't know why, I just enjoy the story more! The original Bridget is annoying and problematic, 2nd one was DULL. I can't actually say that in front of my sister as she adores the films and Renee 's portrayal, I on the other hand am a little harder to please!
A worth to wait sequel.
i LOVE the bridget jones movies, the ONE movie i'll watch more than once-funny and really great songs that take you back and make you smile-Renee is 'so cool'
The third film in the Bridget Jones trilogy, this time she find herself pregnant after a one night stand with a relative stranger she met at a festival, played by Patrick Dempsey, and short time later with former lover Colin Firth. Now she doesn't know who the father is between the two. Rene Zellweger is quite charming in her role as Jones and the movie series is better off because of it. These movies are better than the usual mediocre rom-com.
My wife and I barely made it through half an hour ... it was really dreadful. Every scene zipped by like the actors were doing a walk-through of a third-rate sitcom. Was anything funny? Nope ... not unless saying naughty words automatically counts as funny.
This is a light hearted bit of fun - pretty much what you'd expect of a Bridget Jones film. Its funny in an awkward/cringe-y way at times, as ever. Its not a film to be taken too seriously or anything, of course. This film features a decent cast - Colin Firth, Jm Broadbent, Sally Phillips, Joanna Scanlan and Renee Zellweger as the titular character and Patrick Dempsey as Bridgets new 'man on the scene'. There's even a cameo by Ed Sheeran. Its not especially memorable but its a nice enough watch regardless - a good bit of fun which I'd recommend.
This movie was not needed. Renee's version of Bridget is so stilted and it still bugs that she plays her as stupid as opposed to misguided but witty, as in the books.
The premise might be seen as a bit silly seeing how Renee Zellweger has visibly aged in the 12 years since The Edge of Reason and Patrick Dempsey's character is nice but lacking the memorable presence of Hugh Grant but Bridget Jones's Baby is otherwise an improvement over its denser and wackier predecessor, even if Diary is still the best film in the trilogy. Zellweger seamlessly disappears into the role yet again and what's more impressive is that her British accent remains convincing despite not having played an Englishwoman in a decade and that was as a completely different, non-fictitious person, she has good chemistry with Colin Firth, it's funny without the absurdity of the second movie and the plot feels like a natural continuation of her story to the point that it feels like the filmmakers pulled a Shrek Forever After and completely ignored the events of the second movie with absolutely zero indication they ever happened in the first place. All in all, a flawed yet funny and wholesome romcom that serves as a worthy conclusion to our hapless heroine's story, despite a sequel hook that's unlikely to come to light what with Grant not wanting to return. P.S.: Can you believe this is the second movie after Mamma Mia that had Colin Firth in a film with the premise of "are you the father?" Just thought that was pretty darn amusing.
