Brittany Runs a Marathon Reviews
I enjoyed the story and the message it was trying to convey, it definitely had pacing issues. I liked seeing a more moedern girl trying to reach a dream, as someone who isn't skinny it was nice to see someone like me try to pull their life around and it does give good inspiration. I think the acting was really well done and they had a great cast. There were a few moments the writing was a bit awkward and felt out of place but all in all an enjoyable movie. I think the end felt a little rushed but I loved the reality of it. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone but it was a good guilty pleaure watch.
Funny, inspirational, motivating. Love it.
It’s engaging and well-intentioned. However, a bit more narrative heft towards the last latter half would’ve benefited greatly as a way to reward the reviewer - instead of feeling like an after thought. Still, it’s a great lesson to learn about resilience and the power of the human spirit.
Sometimes a movie hits so close to home that it's virtually impossible to be objective about it. This is one of those times. Having faced weight issues my whole life and at one time losing 75 pounds, this movie is scarily accurate in its portrayal of the physical and mental anguish that comes with being overweight. I don't look into mirrors anymore. I don't allow my picture to be taken. And even when I was thinner, the demons of being fat haunted me. But this movie gave me hope. The battles Brittany faces daily in her quest to achieve health, both internally and externally, are painfully honest. I could write volumes about how this movie moved me. I had tears and goosebumps by the end. Objectively, the movie is very well made but certainly not cinematic perfection. But when you come across a motion picture that feels like the screenwriter peered into your own life, it makes virtually every misstep forgivable. If you've dealt with issues involving weight and self esteem, I guarantee you'll find something to which you can relate. This is a very special movie that I hope develops a cult following over the years.
OMG.The year has started and Ive been feeling kinda meh, unmotivated. Watching this movie reminded me of all Ive accomplished this past year, including running a half marathon, finally kicking my bad habit of over drinking, letting people into my life, and trying to not be judgmental of others. I 100% relate to this movie and its delivery of its message.
extremely relatable. caring about appearance and weight is just such an everyday thing. I never thought I was going to shed a tear in this film.
Really enjoyed this film. Dealt with friendship, body image issues-- the challenge of changing your perspective on life in an honest way. Great characters.
It actually made me cry sad to say. Made me want to run. Funny, clever. And she looked great after the movie.
Very funny, relatable, moving, great cast.
The movie is just a person with lots of problems who's moaning 50% of the time, being mean, rude, or bitchy 49% of the time, being cute or nice 0.9% of the time—and seeming inspirational 0.1% of the time. All the other actors are mandatory extras, as it were. "Dramedy"? It's a documentary / biography; towards the end, I kind of guessed it's based on a true story—and it turns out it was. I mean, how can it possibly be inspirational if the only depiction of someone being inspirational is the protagonist periodically and continually training—looking just like you or I would if we were to practise running—and checking the bathroom scales?
It was really inspiring. At first I thought it might be something about body shaming, not no its actually a great inspiring movie to be a better person
ew. this hurt to watch. I want to kill my self
Main character was very unlikeable from start to finish. She was irresponsible, little resilience, low emotional IQ and many times acted very mean to friends and others who attempted to help her. A sign of our times when the main character is so self absorbed that she shows almost no redeeming qualities. The 'woke' crowd will love the diversity in the casting but the story is not worth experiencing.
Inspired by a true story, this riotously funny and winningly uplifting comedy pulsates with affecting positivism and spirited energy in telling a fat girl coming of age to take responsibility of her life by taking on a fitness journey that culminates in a New York City marathon.
A nice little dramedy. Mostly a light drama with smatterings of comedy. Engaging and well-done enough. A nice break from high drama, crime and action/adventure.
Not an academy award nominee by any stretch, but a good story about a woman whose destructive self-image changes over time through self-determination and good friends and family who support and encourage her. An overweight thirty-something is told by her doctor that she has to change her lifestyle and she becomes driven by a dream - to fun in the NY Marathon. The transformation is remarkable and the story is inspirational.
Really enjoyed this film! Jillian Bell is fantastic and so likeable as Brittany and this film has now become one of my go to films when my life needs a kick up the butt! Funny, caring, charming, and genuine! Highly recommended
I was familiar with Jillian Bell from the crass but super funny workplace comedy "Workaholics" and she gives a surprisingly sincere and genuinely moving performance as a young woman who decides to make positive health changes in her life by training for the NYC Marathon. The film is predictable and borders on cliche, but it has an honesty about it that you don't usually get in these sort of films which puts it above similar fare. Well worth watching.
